Aryan Khan’s directorial debut, The Ba***ds of Bollywood, released in September, is leaving the internet abuzz with its witty storyline and impeccable cast. Congress MP and author Shashi Tharoor recently discovered an unexpected source of entertainment in the Netflix show, despite being down with a persistent cold and cough.

In a new post on X, Tharoor hailed the seven-episode show for its “sharp writing, fearless direction, and audacious satire,” adding that while it might take a little while to grow on you, “once it does, you’re completely hooked”.

According to Tharoor, the show offers a “genius, often hilarious, sometimes moving” glimpse behind the glitz of the film industry, cleverly skewering Bollywood’s clichés with razor-sharp wit and insider humour that makes viewers feel like part of the inner circle.

Praising Aryan as a “true storytelling powerhouse”, Tharoor applauded the young filmmaker’s ability to balance humour, social commentary, and emotional resonance with remarkable ease. “The writing is sharp, the direction is fearless, and the sheer audacity of this satire is just what Bollywood needed,” he wrote, urging audiences not to miss the series.

He also had a heartfelt message for Shah Rukh Khan, Aryan’s father. “From one father to another, let me say: you must be so proud!!” Tharoor wrote.

The post quickly gained traction, drawing a flurry of reactions. “I’ve seen it too. While it has its moments, much of it feels repetitive and stereotypical. Calling it a masterpiece is quite an overstatement,” a user wrote. “Loved your review, Dr Tharoor! Aryan Khan’s show really is something special—smart, bold, and so entertaining. Glad it helped you feel a bit better too. Wishing you a speedy recovery!” another user commented.

“coming from Shashi Tharoor might be one of the best critic review that Aryan Khan must have got, this is so wholesome and means a lot,” a third user reacted.

Earlier, Aryan Khan credited his father Shah Rukh Khan for guiding him through his directorial journey. In an interview with Variety, Aryan said, “My father is incredibly knowledgeable about every aspect of filmmaking—VFX, lighting, camera work—you name it,” Aryan shared.

“Even as a kid, he would show me, ‘This is how it happens; you don’t actually get shot like that.’ That’s how I learned the craft, and it’s something I carry with me every day.”
