A Ananthlakshmi, 55, is lighting up social media feeds with a video of her watching Jr NTR’s film Adhurs during her brain surgery at Kakinanda’s Government General Hospital in Andhra Pradesh. Anantlakshmi underwent “awake craniotomy,” where the patient remains conscious during the medical procedure, for her a 3.3 x 2.7 cm tumour on the left side of her brain, according to a viral post on X.
The video shows the woman watching the movie on a tablet with an oxygen mask on and surgical wires attached to her chest. Hailing from A Kothapalli, Tondangi Mandal, the woman had been suffering from a brain tumour, which led to symptoms such as constant headaches, numbness in her right arm and leg, and weakness. “Doctors who performed brain surgery while showing NTR Adurs movie,” an X handle @TeluguScribe wrote.
“The operation, which lasted for two and a half hours, was successful. Doctors said that the woman is likely to be discharged in five days. Everyone congratulated the doctors for the success of such surgery at Kakinada Government General Hospital,” the X post said.

A similar incident happened in 2017, when doctors made a 45-year-old woman watch Baahubali 2 during brain surgery in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. According to ANI, the doctors decided the patient should be conscious to save her from losing her voice during the surgery. The report stated that a laptop was placed beside the patient to maintain the mental pressure. The doctors also asked her to sing a song from the blockbuster movie.
