‘Game of Thrones’ theme gets an Indian classical twist; Rishab Rikhiram Sharma’s sitar rendition goes viral

Game of Thrones is an immensely popular American show and its theme song has garnered just as much love from fans. The opening theme was so well received during the show’s run that very few skipped the credits, and heard the iconic music playing in the background.

Now, a stunning rendition of the theme on sitar is going viral, capturing the internet’s attention. Rishab Rikhiram Sharma, the popular sitar player and disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar, performed the Game of Thrones theme during his ‘Sitar for Mental Health’ tour in New York.

In the video posted by X user ‘Yo Yo Funny Singh, Sharma is seen playing the sitar while his band members accompany him on various instruments. The video shows the audience enjoying the sitar rendition of the American composition, giving the familiar theme a fresh, captivating twist.

“Who would have imagined the Game of Thrones theme on Sitar would sound so beautiful and epic,” said the video caption.

The video has received more than 1.5 lakh views with many users commenting on the post.

One X user wrote, “Game of thrones is itself an iconic show but this was something else. Unexpectedly unexpected.” “This is truly epic. Ramin Djwadi would be happy if he saw this,” said another user referring to the original composer of the theme song.

A third person wrote, “Thanks for reminding what goosebumps feel like.”

Who is Rishab Rikhiram Sharma?

A sitarist and music producer from the renowned Rikhi Ram family, Rishab Rikhiram Sharma was mentored by Pt Ravi Shankar. He studied Music Production and Economics in New York City, blending classical sitar with modern music. Sharma is also a mental health advocate, founding ‘Sitar For Mental Health’ to offer music therapy.

Sharma made history as the first sitarist to perform solo at the White House and has performed for large audiences worldwide. He actively engages with fans on social media, sharing his music and promoting mental well-being.
