How to activate BharatPe ‘Shield’ to protect yourself from UPI frauds

BharatPe, on December 5, introduced Shield, a comprehensive protection plan that protects its users from UPI fraud. Users who sign up will be protected against fraud, phishing attacks, and unauthorised transactions caused by phone loss.

Available free of cost for the first 30 days, followed by a monthly cost of Rs 19, this service offers comprehensive protection against UPI fraud for up to Rs 5,000.

To register a claim, users can either download and install the OneAssist app or call 1800-123-3330, a toll-free number. However, users need to report the fraud within 10 days to make the claim.

Depending on the severity of the fraud, users need to submit documents like a UPI statement, FIR/police intimation copy, claim form, confirmation of blocking the UPI account, and any other document as required by the insurer.

How to activate BharatPe Shield?

BharatPe Shield can be accessed and activated from the home page of the BharatPe app, and this feature is available on both Android and iOS devices.

On the home page, click on the banner BharatPe Shield. First-time BharatPe users need to make a payment of at least Rs 1 to any contact or business to activate the Shield.

This is an interesting service by BharatPe, especially at times when online fraud has been rampant. However, it is always better to be safe than sorry. Make sure to secure your UPI payment apps and never click on an unknown link or download an app from an unknown source.
