Mobile handset maker Nokia on Thursday unveiled a touchscreen device – N97 – for the Indian consumers under its multimedia phone series,which is expected to be priced at around Rs 35,000.
Designed for the needs of Internet savvy consumers,this touch device pioneers the concept of a personalized home screen that lets people choose their favourite content,providing an ‘always open’ window to applications and Internet content such as social networking sites,RSS feeds and other widgets (stand-alone mini web-based applications).
In addition,it offer integrated access to the newly opened Ovi Store,a one-stop shop for a full catalogue of applications,games,videos,podcasts,productivity tools,web and location-based services,and much more.
In India,the Ovi Store on the N97 will offer a choice of 50 free to download items developed specifically for Indian consumers,by Indian developers. The users will also have access to global items,a mix of paid and free to download content.
“Fuelled by a multitude of media and applications through the Ovi Store,the Nokia N97 is tailored to the tastes and interests of its user,” said Vineet Taneja,Director-Marketing,Nokia India.
“Though the price for the Indian market has not yet been decided,it is expected to be around Rs 35,000,” Taneja added.
N97 is expected to be available in India at the end of June 2009. The Nokia N97 supports up to 48 GB of storage,including 32 GB of on-board memory,expandable with a 16 GB microSD card for music,media and more.
