Tech News of the week (Third week of February 2024): OpenAI announced its latest text-to-video generator AI tool Sora, which can generate videos, and Google announced an upgraded version of Gemini 1.5 Pro with more features and capabilities.

Tech News of the Week in India: This week’s tech trend primarily contribute to the generative AI. While OpenAI announced Sora, a text-to-video generation tool, and just a few weeks after its rename, Google also announced an updated version of Gemini 1.5 Pro, which is now more capable.

    OpenAI Sora

    Sora is the latest generative AI-powered tool by OpenAI, which can generate videos with just simple text prompts. According to the company, "Sora is an AI model that can create realistic and imaginative scenes from text instructions." Currently available for select users, Sora can generate up to 1 minute-long videos, and these videos also include a watermark at the bottom right corner, which makes it easy to distinguish between a real video and an AI-generated video.

    Google Gemini 1.5 Pro

    Google just announced its most capable LLM -- Gemini 1.5 Pro, which is now available for Gemini Advanced subscribers. Google claims that the new model offers dramatic improvements over the Gemini 1.5 Pro is as capable as the Gemini 1 Ultra and uses less compute. The new model can run up to 1 million parameters consistently, resulting in a longer context window. This is a mid-sized model built on top of high-efficiency architecture with better understanding and reasoning capabilities.

    Android 15 preview

    Android 15 preview is now available for developers and can be installed on Pixel 6 and newer models. The next generation of Android OS introduces new features and capabilities, including the ability to share a portion of the display, improved notification management, and more. Google has also confirmed that the stable version of Android 15 will be released post-July 2024.

    OnePlus to issue a refund to unsatisfied customers

    OnePlus recently confirmed that the 256 GB variant of the 12R uses UFS 3.1-type storage instead of early advertised UFS 4.0. The COO has now confirmed that unsatisfied users can get a full refund if they are not satisfied with the customer, and this window is open until March 16. The company has also confirmed that both variants of the OnePlus 12R use UFS 3.1-type storage.
