Spotify yesterday announced that its desktop app is getting a visual overhaul. The company said in a blog post that the new ‘Your library’ and ‘Now playing’ sections bring the desktop app in line with the mobile version.

While the main content area where you can browse and discover music and podcasts remains unchanged, the left hand of the app window gets a new ‘Your Library’ section that offers quick access to your podcast collections and saved music. Spotify says the new left panel can help users save time by offering quick access to their favourite music and makes it easy to switch between playlists.

If you want to make it compact, click on the ‘Your library’ button to collapse the library. Playlists can also be pinned in the Library and users can also drag and drop songs into editable listed playlists.

On the right side of the app, the Now Playing section will now show the current song or podcast and lets users find more information about the song, artist, tour dates and even merch. For some podcasts, Spotify will also let you follow transcripts as you listen. Both Now Playing and Your Library can be resized according to your preferences.

The ‘Friend Activity’ can now be found by clicking on the ‘friends’ icon that resides next to your profile picture on the top right of the screen. Spotify has started rolling out the redesigned app to all desktop users worldwide.
