Tech behemoth Microsoft has made its AI-powered designing tool, Microsoft Designer, available for public preview. The company has unveiled the public preview with a set of extended features.
Microsoft announced Designer in October 2022. The new tool which is reportedly built to rival Canva will assist users with graphic designs and image creation. When it was launched, the Microsoft Designer had a similar interface as Canva.
Microsoft Designer can help users in creating designs for posters, presentations, digital postcards, invitations, and visuals for social media and other digital platforms. The designer tool harnesses OpenAI’s text-to-image model DALL-E2 to conceptualise designs and offer a range of customisations and personalisations.
Equipped with AI, the Microsoft Designer simplifies the creative journey of users by offering an easy start, augmenting their creative workflows, and most importantly helping them overcome creative roadblocks.
“Designer leverages cutting-edge generative AI technology to assist and empower every person to get started on new ideas, create unique and high-quality graphics in less time, and uplevel content, with or without a background in design,” read the blog post from Microsoft.
According to Microsoft, the Designer is built to assist users at each stage of the creative process. Ever since its announcement in October, Microsoft said that the AI models for the tool have been steadily improving offering greater control to the users. Also, to help with inspirations while browsing the internet, Microsoft is also offering Designer within the Microsoft Edge sidebar.
At present users can try the Microsoft Designer expanded public preview for free by visiting the website or logging into their Microsoft account. The preview of Designer in Edge is rolling out to Edge and can be accessed through the sidebar by clicking the “+” icon to enable it.
Apart from Canva, the Microsoft Designer will also compete with Adobe’s Adobe Express Tool which offers a wide range of image templates and stock images.
