If you are looking for a computer monitor that is easy on your eyes and mimics the look of real paper, you might be interested in the latest upcoming product from Dasung, a Chinese company that specialises in E-ink displays. The Dasung Paperlike Color is claimed to be the world’s first colour E-ink monitor and it supports a 3K resolution.
E-ink, or electronic ink, is a technology that uses tiny microcapsules of ink to create images that resemble printed paper. Unlike conventional LED or OLED screens, E-ink screens do not emit blue light or glare, which can cause eye strain and fatigue. E-ink screens also consume much less power, lasting weeks instead of days on a single charge.
While the technology has been widely used in e-readers, such as Kindle Paperwhite, Dasung is one of the first to use it for proper computer monitors. The company has been developing E-ink monitors since 2014, and previously released black-and-white models with various screen sizes and refresh rates. Paperlike Color is the first model to feature colour, which Dasung claims is a breakthrough in the field.
Paperlike Color uses a Kaleido 3 Color E-ink Screen, which can display up to 4096 colours with high contrast and clarity. Dasung also provides X-colour filters that can enhance the colour effects and brightness of the screen. In addition, the 25.3-inch-sized monitor boasts a Turbo Ultra-Speed refresh technology, which is expected to deliver smooth and fast performance.
Paperlike Color is currently available for pre-order on Indiegogo, where it has already surpassed its funding goal by more than 300%. The price of Paperlike Color is not yet revealed, but it is expected to be higher than the previous black-and-white model, which costs $1,748. Dasung plans to start shipping Paperlike Color in December 2023.
