A photo of a HomePod prototype, which has surfaced on the web, suggests that the next-generation HomePod will feature a coloured LCD screen.

The image is from an X user known as Kosutami, who is recognised for collecting Apple prototype devices. According to the picture, the top portion of the HomePod now has a larger touch area, and the device carries a code name “B720.” Kosutami claims that Apple is actively working on this prototype and that it’s in an advanced stage of development.
Another report suggests that the upcoming HomePod might run on a forked version of tvOS, referred to as “homeOS.” This would enable the HomePod to natively run apps and services without a user interface. The device is said to include native apps like Apple Music and Apple Podcasts, which will be reprogrammed to be compatible with the new display format.
Apple is also said to be exploring to add additional functionalities to the HomePod with this display, including the ability to answer calls, display notifications, match the display colour to the music album art, and respond to messages using pre-configured texts and emojis.
Currently, there is no information available regarding when Apple will introduce the new HomePod if it ever does. This leak makes it evident that Apple is considering a significant overhaul of the HomePod to enhance its functionality as a smart speaker.
