Apple’s iOS 10 public beta has been released for iOS and macOS. Users can install the public beta by registering as an Apple developer. The iOS 10 public beta version is compatible with iPhone 5 and later, all iPad Air and iPad Pro models, iPad 4th generation, iPad mini 2 and later, and iPod touch 6th generation.
You will need to enroll your devices to get iOS 10 and macOS public betas. This can be done from iOS Software Update or the Mac App Store. Users already testing a prior operating system, will have to re-enroll fro the latest version. Here is how you can download the iOS 10 public beta update:
iOS
1. iOS backup
It is strongly advised to back up your data and files before installing the beta version of iOS 10. Users can do iTunes backup and archive their data before installing the latest iOS version.
2. Download Profile
Go to beta.apple.com/profile from your iOS device to download configuration profile. Once downloaded, your device will prompt you to follow onscreen instructions to install it. Install the profile and you are ready to download the new iOS 10.
3. Update your iOS device
iOS devices running iOS 8.1.3 or later will automatically receive the iOS 10 public beta OTA update. You can go to Settings, General and then click on Software Update to install the beta software.
macOS
1. Back up you device
It is extremely important to back up data and files before installing beta software on macOS. Also, in case you have multiple Mac computers, it is always a good idea to install the software on a secondary system. MacOS comes with built-in Time Machine utility for backup.
2. Install the macOS Sierra public beta
For installing macOS Sierra public beta, users will need to enter redemption code on the Mac App Store. You can find the redemption code online. The downloading will begin automatically begin once you click Redeem.
The downloading process can be checked from the Purchases tab. Once, downloaded, the installer will then take you through steps to finally complete the enrollment and installation of the iOS 10 public beta.
3. Mac App Store Updates
Mac App Store will push out new updates for macOS once you download the new version. You can install these updates from the store.
Users can also enroll their Mac in OS X El Capitan public betas, if not they feel they’re not ready for macOS Sierra. They will need to back up their data using Time Machine, and then download the public beta access utility. Users will then need to double-click on OSXElCapitanPublicBetaAccessUtility.dmg to run the installer.
Mac App Store will push out new updates. Users can simply click on the Update button to install the latest OS X El Capitan public beta.
The Cupertino giant launched iOS 10, the new version of Apple’s OS for iPhones, iPads and iPods at the annual WorldWide Developer Conference (WWDC 2016). Apple CEO Tim Cook called it “the mother of all releases” as it packs 10 major new features for iOS.
iOS 10 brings host of new features including more power to Siri, GIF and handwriting support for messages; and more. Apple opened up Siri for third-party developers and the AI powered voice assistant finally found its way into macOS.
iOS 10 adds emotions and character to messages. Messages now come with support for handwriting, rich links, larger emojis, more powerful text and full screen messages. There will be an Apps icon below each message from now, letting you add anything from a customised GIF to a money coupon to your message.
iOS 10 will add layers of people and places on top of photos by auto tagging photos and then adding them to maps of where they were taken. Apple plans to use Siri’s knowledge to make multi-lingual typing easier with predictions thrown in.
