Realme CEO Madhav Sheth has revealed via Twitter that the smartphone maker will increase the prices of its phones after the Diwali sales on Flipkart and Amazon.

Realme phones will become costlier post the festive season, as per a series of tweets from company CEO Madhav Sheth. The brand was launched in India earlier this year, and its product range features smartphones under Rs 20,000. Sheth’s posts mention that the company will re-evaluate the prices of the phones, given the weakening rupee, and the reliance on import of key phone components.

The first tweet from Madhav Sheth has almost confirmed an impending price rise, that has been termed as an “upgrade of pricing”. Equating the state of the Indian rupee to that of traffic woes and rising pollution, he states that Realme intends to “figure out a solution” regarding its prices in the days following Diwali.

This comes as all phones under the brand, Realme 1, Realme 2, Realme 2 Pro, and Realme C1 are part of Flipkart’s Big Diwali sale, that lasts until November 5. While the offers will remain untouched, the new Realme phone prices will be shown through online retailers, as well as the phone’s offline partnership with Reliance Digital.

Realme is a sub-brand of Chinese smartphone maker Oppo, and has brought many features from premium smartphones into its devices. Realme 1, the first of its phones, was among the first budget smartphones in India to come with a diamond-cut glass back design, while offering AI-based camera features, Face Unlock, a fingerprint sensor, and a 6-inch FHD+ display. The phone was launched in May, with its 4GB RAM variant available at Rs 8,999, while its 6GB RAM option was priced at Rs 10,999.

The unique design has also been seen in its recent flagship phones, Realme 2 and Realme 2 Pro. The latter, priced from Rs 13,999, features a dewdrop notch over the 6.3-inch FHD+ display, that runs the Snapdragon 660 processor, and comes with 16MP+2MP dual-rear cameras as well as 6GB/8GB RAM variants. Meanwhile, the budget-friendly Realme C1, priced at Rs 6,999, comes with 13MP+2MP dual-rear cameras, a 4230mAh battery, as well as a 6.2-inch HD+ display.
