HMD Global launches Nokia G42, a budget friendly 5G phone with ‘QuickFix’ design

HMD Global today launched the Nokia G42, a budget 5G phone that sports a stylish design and a Qualcomm chipset. It comes with Android 13 out of the box with Nokia promising 2 years of Android updates and 3 years of monthly security patches, which is in line with other G-series smartphones by the company.

Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+, an octa-core 5G-enabled chipset announced in October 2021, the phone features a 6.56-inch HD+ LCD screen with a refresh rate of 90Hz and 560 nits peak brightness. It also supports Ozo Playback, a technology that uses Stereo Widening, Bass Enhancement and Loudness Optimisation to broaden the sound to offer a more enjoyable audio experience.

The back is made from plastic and houses a triple camera setup that consists of a 50MP primary sensor backed by 2MP macro and depth sensors. On the front, you get a punch-hole notch that houses an 8MP selfie shooter.

It comes with 128GB internal storage and is available in two RAM variants – 4GB and 6GB, which can be expanded to 11GB using virtual RAM. All of this is backed by a 5,000mAh battery that can be charged at 20W. The device also features a ‘QuickFix design’, meaning users can fix it at home if they have the required spare parts and tools.

The base variant of the Nokia G42, which comes with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage is priced at Rs 12,499, but there are no details on the other variant. It will go on sale on Amazon from September 15 and will be available in ‘So Purple’ and ‘So Grey’ colours.
