Nintendo Wii consumers will still be able to access Netflix and Prime Video platforms via the web browser app.
Netflix has emailed its all of its users that Nintendo will suspend all video streaming services for the Nintendo Wii with effect from January 30. Nintendo Wii users will no longer be able to stream any online video content from services like Netflix after the due date. Nintendo is also shutting down services from Amazon Prime Video and Hulu.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise for Nintendo Wii owners considering the company earlier announced that it will be shutting the Nintendo Shop channel on January 30.
Nintendo is shutting down its Nintendo Shop platform as it has brought in a revamped new online shopping platform, Nintendo eShop. The new platform does provide its users with games and apps along with a subscription based service like Xbox Gold and PSN Plus.
This new platform is currently accessible on the company’s latest gaming console Nintendo Switch, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
Nintendo Wii is one of the most popular gaming consoles the company has released till date. It is also one of the longest supported gaming consoles from Nintendo, with over 12 years of support. It was launched back in 2006 and had sold over 101.63 million units by 2016.

Nintendo Wii consumers will still be able to access Netflix and Prime Video platforms via the web browser app. They will now need to visit the dedicated websites for these services. However, the experience might not be as rich as a dedicated app.
Nintendo Switch is still in line to receive a dedicated Netflix and Amazon Prime Video apps. It recently got a YouTube app after a year of being launched.
