The legendary game designer Hideo Kojima has a lot on his plate. He is working on Death Stranding 2, a movie adaptation of the first game, and a horror game for Xbox called OD. But that’s not all. He is also creating a new game for PlayStation, which will be an action-espionage title with the codename PHYSINT.
This was revealed during the State of Play stream today, where PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst said that he has been urging Kojima to “reinvent” the genre for years. Kojima is best known for creating the Metal Gear series, which defined stealth action games. However, this new project will not be a Metal Gear Solid game. It will be a “brand new, original IP”, according to Kojima.
The game is expected to launch on PlayStation 5, after Kojima Productions finishes Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which is slated for next year. Kojima said that he is partnering with Sony, which also produces music and movies, to make this game a transmedia project. He said that he is “confident that this game will be the culmination of my work” after 40 years of making games.
At the end of the stream, Kojima and Hulst said “stay tuned” and walked away from the camera, which zoomed out to show a Columbia Pictures logo with the word ‘Physint’ underneath it.
We don’t know much more about the game, but we are sure that Kojima will surprise us with his vision and creativity. In the meantime, we can look forward to two more games from him, which will surely be mind-blowing.
