Fitbit Charge 2, Flex 2 announced with upgraded features and design

Fitbit, arguably the world’s largest fitness band maker, has refreshed its top selling products and introduced the Fitbit Charge 2 and Fitbit Flex 2 with new designs and features. Presale bookings are open for both products, however the Charge 2 will be available late September and Flex 2 in October.

The Fitbit Charge 2 now has a larger display and interchangeable bands, while the Fitbit Flex 2 is now swim-proof and will even be compatible with bangles and pendants being released with the version. However, the biggest innovation is with the Charge 2 which will now clock cardio fitness based on estimated VO2 Max. It will also detect exercises and sleep automatically. There will also be guided breathing sessions aimed at bringing down stress levels along with move reminders. Also, thanks to the larger display almost all notifications will now be available on the band. The Charge 2 will be priced Rs 14,999 and there will be a deluxe version priced Rs 16,999. The bands will cost Rs 2,999 apiece while the leather straps will come for Rs 6,999 each.

The Flex 2 on the other hand is slimmer than the earlier version and will be water resistant up to 50 metres. It will also have accessories from different vendors. It will also feature SmartTrack auto excercise recognition will use its LED strip to convey notification alerts. The Flex 2 is priced Rs 9,499 with bands at Rs 2,999 each. The bangle will cost Rs 8,999 for silver and Rs 9,999 for gold, the pendant will be priced Rs 7,999 for silver and Rs 9,999 for gold.

There is a new Fitbit Adventures, a new series of personal, non-competitive activity challenges that will motivate users to achieve more.

Steve Morley (VP & GM-APAC) told indianexpress.com that India is already among the top three markets in Asia where Fitbit is now available in 11 countries. He said the initial response to Fitbit products has been really positive and the company is looking forward to the festival season. “Our goal is to make products that are livable and usable the whole day, fitting into people’s lives seamlessly,” Morley said, adding that to this effect the company was investing heavily on new products.

The Fitbit app will also undergo changes to accommodate the new features, especially the assisted GPS features on the Charge 2. There is a new Fitbit Adventures, a new series of personal, non-competitive activity challenges that will motivate users to achieve more. This new immersive feature will run across the full range and will feature top locations like Yosemite National Park.
