Microsoft has added several new AI-powered features on Windows 11 in the last few months, but it looks like the tech giant is gearing up to introduce a new feature called ‘AI Explorer’.
According to a recent report by Windows Central’s Zac Bowden, AI Explorer might be one of the main selling points for AI PCs to differentiate them from non-AI ones. The first to get the feature might be the upcoming Surface 10 Pro and Surface Laptop 6, which are expected to launch on March 21.
The AI Explorer app will be an advanced version of Copilot that comes with a built-in history feature which will make everything action you perform on your PC searchable. It might work across all apps and help users search previously opened images, web pages and conversations.
Bowden says the AI Explorer app will also be able to understand vague prompts like “Find me that thing about dinosaurs”, understand context, suggest tasks based on what’s on the scene and even jumpstart workflows and projects.
For example, if you open a photo, the AI Explorer might show an ‘edit image’ button or show options like ‘remove the image’s background using the Photos app’.
Apart from the new feature, Microsoft may also roll out other AI-powered features like new Windows Studio Effects, real-time live captions and translation, and game upscaling and frame rate smoothing.
Microsoft is expected to ship these features sometime in the second of this year with Windows 11 version 24H2, but it is still unclear if the tech giant will unveil the upcoming AI features on March 21.
