The virtual try-on feature has been developed by Google using numerous pairs of images of over 80 models in various poses, from different sizes, skin tones, body shapes, and ethnicities. Google is one of the biggest tech companies that has been actively including artificial intelligence across its range of products and services. The tech behemoth introduced Google Bard, a conversational chatbot that can aid in a variety of tasks and enhance the overall seeking exercise. Now, the company is all set to revolutionise how we shop online.
Earlier this week, Google introduced a virtual try-on feature backed by the power of generative AI. The new feature shows how clothes look on a wide selection of body types. According to Google, the new feature will help shoppers fine-tune products until they find the perfect piece. This is possible owing to machine learning and new visual matching algorithms that let users refine inputs such as colour, pattern, and style. The biggest advantage here is that users will be able to see options from stores across the web.
With the virtual try-on, shoppers can now see how a clothing item will drape, stretch, cling, fold, and form wrinkles and shadows on a wide range of models. Besides, the feature will also help users to find matching clothing pieces in different sizes, styles, or colours. This extends to different merchants across the web owing to its AI-powered visual matching algorithm.
“Our new generative AI model can take just one clothing image and accurately reflect how it would drape, fold, cling, stretch, and form wrinkles and shadows on a diverse set of real models in various poses. We selected people ranging in sizes XXS-4XL representing different skin tones (using the Monk Skin Tone Scale as a guide), body shapes, ethnicities, and hair types, ” the company said in its blog post.
The virtual try-on feature has been developed by Google using numerous pairs of images of over 80 models in various poses, from different sizes, skin tones, body shapes, and ethnicities. The AI-powered tool learned from all the models to match the shape of certain clothing in various positions to create realistic images of the person from all angles.
Google said that the feature will initially work across brands such as H&M, Everlane, Anthropology, etc. The company said that it will expand to men’s clothing, essentially shirts in the future. The tool is expected to become more accurate and precise over time.
This is not the first time such a feature powered by AI is being used for shopping, Amazon, Shopify, and Instacart are all infusing AI to make shopping hassle-free for users.
