Google may soon rebrand its generative AI-powered chatbot ‘Bard’ to ‘Gemini’ very soon. The tech giant has been constantly adding new features to its Gemini-powered AI chatbot in the last few months, with a recent update bringing image generation capabilities.

The information comes from a recent post by the Android app developer Dylan Roussel on X (previously Twitter) corroborated by previous reports from 9to5Google hinting that Google Bard will soon be renamed to Gemini. A purportedly leaked photo shows a changelog dated February 7, 2024, suggesting the name change and giving us insight into some upcoming features.

As can be seen in the image in the post, we might also get to see the ‘Advanced’ tier powered by Gemini Ultra, the company’s most advanced large language model to date which might even surpass OpenAI’s GPT-4 that powers ChatGPT Plus and Microsoft Copilot.

The changelog indicates that Gemini Advanced will be locked behind a paywall. Google claims that its most powerful large language model at capable of “performing complex tasks like logical reasoning, coding, following nuanced instructions, and creative collaboration.” The company also seems to be updating Gemini Ultra’s capabilities in the “coming months”, improving its ability to deeply analyze files, data, documents and more.

However, the most interesting part is the launch of the Gemini app for Android devices. Google says the new app can “help learning in new ways, writing thank you notes, planning events, and more with Google AI on your phone. ” It looks like Gemini will be integrated with different Google services like Gmail, Maps and YouTube. While Android is getting a new dedicated app, iOS users might have to use the Google app to try Gemini.
