(Image Source: GitHub)GitHub, the popular cloud-based platform used by more than 100 million developers worldwide is getting a new feature that lets you mess around with different AI models like GPT-4o, Llama 3.1, Mistral Large 2 and more.
Designed to make AI models more accessible to developers, the new feature dubbed “GitHub Models” is tightly integrated with existing tools and lets developers test different prompts and model parameters without having to leave their current environment for free.
In a blog post, GitHub says “if you like what you’re seeing on the playground, we’ve created a glide path to bring the models to your developer environment in Codespaces and VS Code”, which will help speedup the process of developing AI applications from the prototype stage to the production stage.
GitHub’s new interactive playground is not only limited to developers but can also be used by students, startups, and hobbyists to explore the latest models from the likes of Meta, OpenAI, Azure and others with a single click.
GitHub’s new playground closely resembles features offered by OpenAI, which also allows developers to test different parameters and generate code. The platform also states that it won’t share outputs or prompts with providers nor use them to train or improve the existing models.
The launch of GitHub Models also puts it in direct competition with HuggingFace, a platform that hosts popular AI models but lacks the integration and advanced tools offered by GitHub. The new feature is currently available in public beta to a handful of users and requires developers to sign up for a waitlist.
Earlier this year, GitHub announced it has opened its certification program to everyone which includes courses like GitHub Foundations Certification, GitHub Actions Certification and more.
