The popular AI-powered chatbot was previously limited to data up to September 2021, which rendered it useless if users wanted to get information about the latest happenings around the world.
Previously, OpenAI had opened up its chatbot to the internet, but that did not go well with the generative AI spewing out hate speech and misinformation. In May this year, the Microsoft-backed company introduced Bing to ChatGPT, allowing the AI to harness the search engine’s vast indexing capabilities.
But after it came to light that ChatGPT could show paywalled content, the company quickly pulled back the update. Fast forward to September, OpenAI started rolling out the feature in beta after fine-tuning the AI model to adhere to a website’s robot.txt file.

Browse with Bing is currently available to ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise users, but OpenAI plans to roll it out to everyone in the near future. To use the feature, head over to ChatGPT app settings, tap on ‘New Features’ and choose the ‘Browse with Bing’ option. When done, choose GPT-4 from the model selector and tap ‘Browse with Bing’.
Apart from the ability to search the internet for real-time information, OpenAI also integrated the latest version text-to-image generator – DALLE-3. With the new model directly available in ChatGPT, users can now generate images without leaving the app.
Unlike the ‘Browse with Bing’, DALLE-3 integration is still in beta stages, so you might get some unexpected results. Similar to the aforementioned feature, users can switch to DALL-E 3 from the GPT-4 tab in the app.
