Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick will be out for three weeks with an Achilles problem but defender Rio Ferdinand is fit again, manager Alex Ferguson said on Friday.
We’ve had a little setback with Michael Carrick. Out for three weeks with an Achilles problem. He’s seen a specialist and had an injection,Ferguson told reporters.
United, who travel to Everton on Saturday, will also be without Brazilian midfielder Anderson, who has a slight niggle but England captain Ferdinand is fit again after recovering from a knee ligament injury sustained before the World Cup.
Anderson came off with a niggle last night but it won’t knock him back for long,Ferguson said.
Everyone else is fit. Rio’s in the squad – he wanted to play last night (for the reserves) but his training performances are so good,he doesn’t need to.
Rooney may be dropped for Everton clash
Manchester United is reportedly considering dropping striker Wayne Rooney for Saturday”s Premier League match against Everton.
Rooney is under intense personal pressure following revelations about his private life, and accusations that he used 1,200 pounds-a-night prostitutes while his wife Coleen was pregnant with son Kai.
The 24-year-old had scored in England”s 3-1 Euro 2012 win in Switzerland on Tuesday.
“Everyone has assumed Wayne will play because of how bravely he performed in Basel, but playing hundreds of miles away in Switzerland is a lot different to stepping out at Goodison Park, where there will be a lot of hatred and abuse flying around – all of it directed at Wayne,” The Sun quoted an Old Trafford insider,as saying.
“How can anyone give their best for 90 minutes in front of a baying crowd with all that turmoil going on in their private life,” he added.
According to reports,United manager Sir Alex Ferguson would leave it until the last minute before deciding whether the striker is in the right frame of mind to face Everton.
Real Madrid: Kaka’s recovery is on schedule
The head of Real Madrid’s medical service says playmaker Kaka’s recovery from left knee surgery is on schedule.
Carlos Diez says Kaka has “met each of the planned objectives” in his recovery from knee surgery five weeks ago.
The Brazil playmaker, who spends 5 1/2 hours each day rehabilitating his left knee,is expected to be out until at least December.
While Kaka’s recovery is focused on his knee,Diez says the rehabilitation will eventually come to include work on a nagging groin injury, which kept the player out of action for lengthy periods last season.
