Lamine Yamal has been named the player of the final. Becomes the youngest player in history to win the Euro title. What a tournament this guy had!! And he just turned 17 yesterday. Rodri, meanwhile, becomes the player of the tournament

Only seconds left and the referee has blown the final whistle. They have won 7 out of 7!! They are record 4 times Euro champions. England's wait for a silverware since 1966 rolls on!!

Free kick for England and this will be Hail Mary for the English. Not long left. Pickford will pump it in. Saka has now fouled Cucurella. Not what England wanted.

Saka is impeded by Williams and England get a free kick near the right flank. Better game play from England. Foden over the ball and he dips it in the box and Spain will clear. England start again. Bellingham gets the ball, swivels away from a Spainish defender with a beautiful turn but shoots wide!!

And England with a change as Harry Kane is now subbed off and Watkins is subbed on. Can he work his magic like he did against the Dutch? Let's wait and watch.

England tries a smart pass but it comes down to nothing as Foden is bundled over trying to play one-two with Kane. But nothing from the referee.

Spain with all the possession now. Rice gets it back and loses it to Morata straight away, who skips past a couple of defenders and tries a shot but is blocked away. Williams was free, should have just passed it to him. Morata gets another chance but the defender clears near the line. Nico gets the ball again but shoots wide. Spain running rampant.

England will need a quick response now as Spain are growing into the match and knowing their playing style, they will not relent. A wayward cross by Bllingham that goes now. Not this way.

Almost a second goal as Williams finds Olmo in a free position in the England penalty box but he has scuffed his shot!! England just survives.

We are back from the break and this is interesting from Spain. They have subbed off Rodri and brought in Zubimendi. And they have got the 2nd half underway.

Luke Shaw and Declan Rice on the ball. Rice takes it. Curves it in on the far post and it's flicked on by Le Normand. Foden is unmarked on the far side of the box, and at full-stretch, forces a good save out of Simon. Spain's first shot on target. 

It's almost the last piece of action in the first half of what has been a cagey, careful final so far. It's had its share of openings but not as many as Spain would've liked, and probably as few as England would've.

Jude Bellingham robs the ball at the edge of the Spanish box on the left and sends in a low pass to Harry Kane in the central channel just outside. The England captain's shot is blocked but England are back on the ball. Kyle Walker on the right is tripped and England have a free kick with two minutes of stoppage time added in the first half.

Alvaro Morata makes a run on the left and Ayemric Laporte has spotted it to thread through a lovely ball. The Spanish captain cuts in and tries to find and opening for a shot but the move fizzles out.

Bellingham nutmegs Rodri before Le Normand comes across to make a fine challenge. As opposed to the last two games, the England number 10 looks more threatening tonight, having shifted to the left-wing as Phil Foden comes in behind Harry Kane.

Fabian Ruiz has opened up his creative outlet since shifting to the inside-left. He canters his way to the England box and looks to bend in a cross but gives it too much air - and little curve - as it goes behind for an England goal kick.

Spain's corner hits Guehi and goes behind for another. Laporte wants a penalty though, after being manhandled by Rice. He's in the right there. Had VAR got involved there, Rice could have few complaints.

So far, Luke Shaw - England's only change in the starting XI from the semifinal win over Netherlands - has dealt with Spain's wonder boy Lamine Yamal on England's left corner. 

Another one of his runs, at the edge of the box, is halted by deflecting the ball out for a corner.

It's not a good challenge from Olmo, who has his foot raised to get the ball but instead catches Rice on the top of his thigh. He can have no complaints about that booking.

Just as we near the half-hour mark, the possession percentage is displayed on the broadcast: 70-30 in Spain's favor. 

The camera then pans to a duo in the stands - one Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez. "They always came in pairs," says Peter Drury on the comms, and one can't really top it. They were too good when it came to this game, these big games, and the possession game. Tonight Spain will turn to different protagonists, but fans of a certain generation would beg to differ that they have anything on this fabled duo.

At last, we have it. Not the one either of the teams would've been content with as their first though. It's Spain's, it's from Fabian Ruiz, but it lacks any venom - for a shot from outside the box - and is straight at Jordan Pickford.

Harry Kane is booked by the referee just as the clock crosses the 25-minute mark. First yellow card of the night. Booked for a lunge at Fabian Ruiz. He got the ball but then followed through into his boot.

Lamine Yamal has the ball and steams in all the way by Pickford's six-yard box on the inward-right before triggering a low shot that's eventually deflected out. 

Meanwhile, Saka is brought down following the Spain corner and Carvajal is not in the wrong, says the referee as England captain Harry Kane tries to convince him otherwise. The Real Madrid and Spain veteran wing back gestures cry-more. It's getting hot out there.

Spain back at having the possession back to themselves. Fabian Ruiz, the left-footed delight, has taken a position on the inside-left channel. 

Meanwhile, in an attempt to snatch the ball off Spanish feets, Bukayo Saka - of all people - brings Marc Cucurella down and the referee cautions the young winger - 'don't just fly yet into my books,' would've been the exact words, I'm 99 percent sure.

For the first time in the final - for over two minutes - England have had more of the ball, and looked more promising than their counterparts. 

Shaw springs a great pass out to Saka on the right. He runs Cucurella, then cuts back inside and lays the ball off towards the onrushing Rice. His first-time shot from 22 yards is well blocked by Rodri.

Kyle Walker makes his way through the right hand side and whips in a low ball that's dealt with for an England corner - their first of the game. The incoming delivery from Phil Foden is poor and undoes all that England had to do to have a chance at a first real threat to Unai Simon so far tonight.

England win possession off a decent outside the boot cross from Nico Williams down the left side. Jude Bellingham gets hold of the ball and looks to get the ball in the central challenge but Lamine Yamal tracks him down and sends the ball out for an England throw in.

Rodri is stretching to try and nick it off Bellingham, but clips him, giving away a free-kick instead, though it comes to nothing.

At the other end, Spain threaten once again from the left. Another corner follows.

Williams plays a neat one-two on the edge of the area and gets the wrong side of Walker, but Rice comes across to make a timely interception.

All tournament, Spain have played possession-disregarding all-out attacking football. The kind that would've sent the class of 2008, '10, and '12 in a state of shock. England on the other hand, have enjoyed large amounts of possession. Still early minutes but England seem to have taken the opposition by surprise as Spain have more than 80 percent of the ball in the first eight minutes of the game while England have looked to steam their way into the Spain half as soon as they get the ball - especially down the left with Luke Shaw.

England losing a lot more ball in the early battles against Spain. Dani Olmo whips in a long cross but Morata is unable to get a head to it before John Stones deflects it down the right. Nico Williams dishes in a low cross but it's dealt with at the cost of a Spain corner.

Spain are looking to make a quick start here as Carvajal moves it down the right. Morata tries to flick it onto Yamal, who has peeled off the back of Shaw, but Rice stretches to block the pass.

Two wonderful renditions. England fans outnumber Spain's three to one. We had heard reports that this is owing to the UEFA deciding to reward more final tickets to the group that is more consistent with their attendance at the tournament, which has been England. But make no mistake, the Spaniards are making sure their voice reaches out to their players in the middle. Oh, this is such a brilliant set up to a mouth-watering finale.

Just as the players make way to the tunnel, Italy's Georgio Chillieni walks out to put the trophy that was his country's over the past three years out to be held by one of Spain or England by the end of the night.

For those of you who haven't tuned in to the entire song - and it's well worth your time - here: 

Look at the size of that football colosseum. All packed to the rafters for the big final. The last major tournament (international) final on this ground was back in 2006, *checks notes*, the FIFA World Cup final - yeah, the one that saw Zinedine Zidane headbutt the life out of Marco Materazzi, and by doing so hand the Italians a BIG advantage on their way to the trophy. If this one lives up to the drama of that night in the German capital, this crowd, is in for a treat.

Ahead of the summit clash, England's first-ever appearance at a major tournament's final away from home, Gareth Southgate was reminded of the one European Championships edition he has tried to forget for most of his life. In 1996, Germany won the tournament hosted by England. What happened to England? They lost the semi-final, in the penalty shootout, to Germany. And Gareth Southgate missed from the spot. 

When asked if he thought England could win their first-ever overseas major tournament final, a Euros, in Germany, Southgate said, "I'm not a believer in fairytales but is a believer in dreams."

"We have had big dreams and felt the importance of that, but you have to make those things happen. The run we’ve had, the late goals and penalties, doesn’t equate to it being our moment. We have to make it tomorrow and perform. It would be a lovely story and it's in our hands but the performance is the most important thing."

Ahead of their semi-final meeting, the Frenchman was asked of his take on the 16-year-old everyone is talking about at these Euros. “He has a lot of qualities. He is capable of playing with his qualities at club level as well as in major tournaments, without pressure.” Rabiot could’ve stopped there, ended it as just another dull, emotionless praise for an opposition player. But perhaps tired of the early days fanboying around Spain’s star boy, he flicked a switch. “To play in a Euro final, he will have to do more than he has so far.”

Till 90+1 minutes of England’s semifinal against Netherlands, Ollie Watkins was Harry Kane’s understudy, struggling to get a look in the team. After the final whistle, the 28-year-old morphed into a national hero, sealing England’s place in the final with a 2-1 win.
