"Anya is someone we've wanted on board for a while now. For all the Indians, I will have to unfortunately remind everyone of the 2017 tragic ... [jokes apart]. We've been working with Anya for the last couple of weeks planning our retentions and auctions. It's a coincidence that we have Anya, Lauren Bell and Linsey Smith, no untowards connections there. It was a clear battle between MI and us for the pacer. Anya brings a wealth of experience having played for England successfully and also captained franchises and teams around the world who are doing well. You can see the level of calm and intel she brings on board. Can't put it into words, but she's been brilliant so far and she'll be even better in the tournament."
RCB head coach Malolan Rangarajan.

Back and forth for Meg Lanning between UPW and Delhi Capitals. 1 crore 90 lakhs from UPW as DC pull out. Sold to UP
All eyes were on Meg Lanning, the legendary Australian captain who was released into the auction by Delhi Capitals. DC do want their stalwart back and go all the way beyond a crore and a half… but it is UP Warriorz who get the prized asset at Rs 1.9 crore! They didn’t go for Alyssa Healy but have brought in her predecessor, the one and only. Lanning, for what it’s worth has been on fire in the WBBL so far.
Vinayakk Mohanarangan: Right-To-Match, as the name suggests, is for franchises to bring back one of the players that they had released before the retention deadlines. Ahead of the last IPL mega auction, the league announced that the franchises can retain a total of 6 players from their existing squad. This could be either via retention at fixed-price slabs or by using the RTM option at the auction. Teams tend to use RTM if they believe they can get a player cheaper than their existing contracts. The RTM was previously used at the mega auctions before IPL 2014 and IPL 2018, but scrapped before the 2022 edition. It made a comeback with a modified clause. In the past, if the franchise used RTM after another team's successful bid for one of their released players, it was enough to sign them back. But this time around, after a franchised used RTM, the highest bidder was allowed to name an improved one-time price, with the older franchise has to then match or say no.
Sophie Ecclestone goes to UP Warriorz for 85 lakhs
Renuka Singh has been sold to the Gujarat Giants for 60 Lakhs
Amelia Kerr has been sold to the Mumbai Indians for 3 Crores
Vinayakk Mohanarangan: Delhi open the bidding for Deepti Sharma at Rs 50 lakh. The teams are playing coy here. No interest from UP Warriorz. And wow, Deepti Sharma doesn’t get any more bids. Of course, UP Warriorz would be delighted to play the Right to Match at this price. And they do indeed. DC now have to make a call on their final bid. There are some discussions between Dada and his gang. They take the price all the way up to Rs 3.2 crore and now UP Warriorz have the ball in their court. They released her for a lesser price… and UPW get their home star back!
Joint-second highest bid in WPL, behind only Smriti Mandhana’s Rs 3.4 crore.
By virtue of the Right to match card, Deepti Sharma goes back to UP Warriorz for 3.2 Crores
Base Price: INR 50 Lakh
Final Price : INR 2 Crore
Alyssa Healy is UNSOLD! for the base price of 50 lakhs
Vinayakk Mohanarangan: WPL 2026 will starts on January 9 at DY Patil in Navi Mumbai and the final is on February 5 in Vadodara.
While many familiar faces can be seen around the WPL auction tables, a new face that will be familiar to Indian cricket fans. 2025 saw India end years of heartbreak at ICC events, to win the ODI World Cup earlier this month. The architect of the last heartbreak, the player of the match in the 2017 edition’s final, Anya Shrubsole is now the bowling mentor for RCB. The English pacer had taken 6 wickets on that day at Lord’s.
Looking forward to the WPL auction today

The auction will commence at 3:30 p.m. IST and will start with the marquee set, which will have eight players – Deepti Sharma (India), Renuka Singh (India), Sophie Devine (New Zealand), Sophie Ecclestone (England), Alyssa Healy (Australia), Amelia Kerr (New Zealand), Meg Lanning (Australia), and Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa).
At the Holkar Stadium on Saturday, a King reigned supreme for Australia. Leg spinner Alana King, who had been bowling like a dream in the last couple of matches without getting the deserved rewards for her spells, spun a web around South Africa in Indore in a top-of-the-table clash that was reduced to a one-sided affair.
King’s stunning 7-over spell resulted in seven South African wickets, as she registered the best figures in the history of the ICC Women’s World Cup (7/18). South Africa, who came into the match flying high on a run of five straight wins, were brought back down to earth as they were bowled out for 97 in 24 hours. In the run chase, Australia had an early wobble but cantered past the finish line with seven wickets and a whopping 199 balls to spare. (Read more from Vinayakk Mohanarangan)
Shafali Verma, the Player of the Match in the Women's World Cup final. Her path to glory involved being initially excluded from the tournament squad. Instead of letting this setback deter her, she dedicated herself to extensive training and excelling in domestic cricket, focusing on scoring runs and increasing her bowling contributions. This commitment resulted in her eventual recall and a match-winning performance in the final, proving her dedication and culminating in the dramatic comeback that delighted her father. (Read more from Nitin Sharma)
THE DAY after Kranti Gaud wins the player-of-the match award for her three wickets against Pakistan in the ICC Women’s World Cup game in Colombo, her family in Ghuwara, a nagar panchayat in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh, receives the ultimate honour. The narrator at the ongoing Shiv Mahapuran Katha in Ghuwara praises Kranti, India’s newest 22-year-old pace sensation, from the dais in front of a 5,000-strong congregation.
“Sirf Ghuwara ko iss beti pe ghamand nahin hai, aaj pure Bharat ko iss beti pe ghamand hai (Not just people in Ghuwara, the entire nation is proud of Kranti),” says “Maharaj ji” Vipin Bihari, a popular preacher in Bundelkhand who has clocked a lakh subscribers on his YouTube channel. (Read more from Nihal Koshie)
Harmanpreet Kaur, India’s first ICC Women’s World Cup-winning captain, began her journey playing with boys and has gone on record in the past saying she had little to no clue about women’s cricket apart from hearing the name Mithali Raj. The story goes that Shafali Verma, the player of the match in the final, had to cut her hair short so that she can replace her brother in a tournament where she’d go on to shine. Deepti Sharma, player of the tournament, got into cricket by following her brother around because she was intrigued. Pratika Rawal, who was on the dias with her teammates on a wheelchair after an unfortunate injury, was the first girl to enrol at Rohtak Road Gymkhana. Richa Ghosh, Renuka Singh Thakur and countless other cricketers in the country over the past couple of decades started their journeys playing alongside boys. (Read more from Vinayakk Mohanarangan)
Deepti Sharma's fierce resolve to secure the World Cup trophy for the nation, a desire driven by the anguish of previous close defeats, particularly the one in 2017. Her brother, Sumit Sharma, shared a private conversation where Deepti made an earnest commitment: "I will not let this trophy go from India, whatever happens." This vow motivated her to deliver a match-winning, all-round masterclass in the subsequent final (the 2025 ICC Women's World Cup, where she scored 58 runs and took 5 wickets), and her first emotional question to her brother after the victory confirmed she had fulfilled her ultimate promise.
Sophie Devine
All-rounder (NZL)
Base: Rs 50 lakh
36-year-old Sophie Devine, who played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has delivered some impactful performances in the Women's Premier League (WPL) across the seasons, particularly known for her power-hitting prowess and experience.
Vaishnavi Sharma
Left-arm spinner (MP)
Base: Rs 10 lakh
Another Madhya Pradesh talent to keep an eye on, Vaishnavi Sharma grabbed the headlines at the start of India's victorious U19 World Cup campaign earlier this year, with 5/5 against Sri Lanka that included a hat-trick. She was the tournament's leading wicket-taker. She has since carried that onto the domestic circuit, finishing Senior Women's T20 Trophy at the top of wicket-taking charts with 21 from 9 innings at an economy rate of 4.50.
Kiran Navgire
Power-hitter (Maharashtra)
Base: Rs 40 lakh
She'd have probably found bids anyway, but her stocks have risen even higher recently after she smashed the fastest ever T20 century in the format during the Senior Women's T20 Trophy (34 balls). Her 233 runs in the tournament came at a strike rate of 235.55 with 17 sixes, matched only by Shafali Verma.
Sneh Rana
Off-spin allrounder (Railways)
Base: Rs 30 lakh
One of the big surprises of the previous WPL auction was Sneh Rana going unsold, after being let go by Gujarat Giants. But, 'the comeback queen' found a new home with RCB as an injury replacement and used that as a launchpad all the way to the World Cup winners' podium. Her improved power-hitting, which was on display lower down the order, would have certainly caught teams' attention.
Kranti Gaud
Right-arm pacers (MP)
Base: Rs 30 lakh
From Madhya Pradesh's Ghuwara panchayat, Kranti Gaud has risen quickly through the ranks. A genuinely quick seam-bowling asset is rare in Indian women's cricket and at 22, Kranti still has room to add a few yards of pace to her game, something franchises would be keen to unlock. Her high ceiling would definitely attract bids across the board, perhaps even higher than the more experienced teammates like Renuka Thakur and Arundhati Reddy.
N Sree Charani
Left-arm spinner (AP)
Base: Rs 30 lakh
The spinner from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh broke into the Indian team on the back of WPL 2025, and went on to be a key part of the bowling unit during the World Cup campaign with her control and guile. She was singled out by Australia as the key threat too. Interestingly, she has listed herself in the all-rounder category, even though her batting is yet to catch the eye.
Deepti Sharma
Off-spin allrounder (UP)
Base: Rs 50 lakh
Released by UP Warriorz, the World Cup player of the tournament will be one of the most sought-after names in the auction. The MVP of the 2024 edition, Deepti would have a point to prove, and teams will bank on her recent form with the ball and improvements with the bat. It remains to be seen if UPW would use one of their four Retain-To-Match (RTM) options, should she he available at the right price.
After three editions of Women's Premier League, the tournament is set for its first major squad overhaul. Three teams – Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru – have had to reluctantly dismantle well-established squads, while UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants have a golden chance to reset. The first marquee set will feature international superstars Laura Wolvaardt, Meg Lanning, Sophie Devine, Sophie Ecclestone, Alyssa Healy, and Amelia Kerr. But all eyes will be on established Indian stars – 10 from the World Cup squad – as well as some upcoming talent that teams would have scouted.
A total of 19 players have registered in the highest base-price bracket of Rs 50 lakh, 11 players in the Rs 40 lakh bracket, and 88 players in the Rs 30 lakh bracket. The list also has four players from Associate nations, namely Theertha Satish (UAE), Tara Norris (USA), Thipatcha Putthawong (Thailand) and Esha Oza (UAE), all of whom have been listed at a base price of Rs 10 lakh. The fourth season of the league is likely to begin earlier than the usual time slot of Feb-March due to India co-hosting the T20 World Cup with Sri Lanka in early February.
A total of 277 players will go under the hammer at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 auction that will take place in New Delhi on November 27. 52 capped Indian players, 66 capped overseas players, 142 uncapped Indian players and 17 uncapped overseas players will be involved in a day-long auction process, where all five teams will look to rebuild their squads before the tournament’s fourth edition early next year.
(The final list might be slightly different with ESPNCricinfo reporting that Jess Jonassen - a very successful WPL player over three seasons - not part of the final list)
