Is openers’ poor form a concern in Super Eight?

Going into the next stage the top-order batting is a concern for the side. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have failed to make a big score in the Group Stage. Though Rohit got one half-century against Ireland in India’s opening fixture he looked scratchy in the knock.

Kohli on the other hand coming back off a fabulous Indian Premier League season has looked out of depth when the ball has been swinging. However, the conditions in New York have been extremely bowling-friendly which too played a major part in the faliure of Indian openers.

Going into the next round in the Caribbean the Indian openers would be expected to make big contributions. The conditions in the West Indies are more conducive to spin bowlers against whom Kohli is a master of strike rotation.

As per Rohit, there are hardly any openers in world cricket who strike the ball as cleanly as him against spin which will put India in good stead in the Super Eight round.
