Indian spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has said that he was sure about the Men in Blue winning the 2025 Asia Cup as early as the second match of the tournament. The 34-year-old said that he was also sure about beating Pakistan if they reached the final.

The Suryakumar Yadav-led side beat Pakistan by five wickets in a thrilling final in Dubai to win the tournament for a second time in a row after winning the 50-over edition in 2023.

“I knew that we were going to win. By the time we won the second match, I knew that if we met them in the finals, we were going to win,” Chakaravarthy said on “Breakfast with Champions”.

The spinner also revealed how he had planned to sleep with the trophy and take a photo with the cup next to him. However, since the team did not get the trophy after the final, he eventually slept with a coffee mug next to him.

“So I had planned everything. I had planned that I will sleep and take a photo with the cup next to me. But after the match, there was nothing next to me. There was just a coffee cup, so I went ahead with it,” he said.

The 2025 Asia Cup ended in controversial circumstances after the Men in Blue did not take the trophy from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi and celebrated on the podium without the cup in hand.

Chakaravarthy added that it did not matter that India did not get the trophy, for it did not take away the fact that they had won the tournament.

“I knew that we would win all games. We are the number one team in the World. The Cup can be taken away but we are champions,” he said.
