England international Toby Roland-Jones got out bizarrely during a county game between Middlesex and Warwickshire at the Edgbaston cricket ground.

This was after the Middlesex skipper smashed bowler Ed Barnard for a maximum through long-on but casually continued his follow-through, during which he hit the stumps and was deemed hit wicket by the umpire.

County Championship posted the strange dismissal on social media and wrote “Out hit wicket?! Toby Roland-Jones thinks he has planted the ball for six but knocks the bails off in his follow-through.”

The incident occurred in Middlesex’s first innings when they put on 199 runs on the board.

Earlier in the game, the hosts were bundled for just 60 runs. Hence the visitors had a mammoth first innings lead of 139 runs. Middlesex are lingering at 9th position in the table while Warwickshire are at 4th.

Jones has played four Test matches for England and picked up 17 wickets at an impressive average of 19.64. He made his mark in his international career against South Africa in the English summer of 2017 when he played a key part in England’s bowling attack helping the side win 3-1. He was also a handy batter down the order and chipped in with useful contributions in the series.

However, post that series injuries have hindered his progress and other players have gone up the pecking order for England.
