South Africa’s Senuran Muthusamy was a constant thorn in Team India’s side in the Guwahati Test when he scored 109 runs on Day 2, helping the Proteas reach a massive 489 runs on Sunday. The Protea player, who frustrated the Indian bowlers, slamming 10 fours and 2 sixes in order to get to 109 before finally falling to Mohammed Siraj.

“It was a really special moment in front of this full house. I’m just glad that I could contribute to the team and really put some runs on the board in the first innings, which is always important. It (plan) was just to build partnerships and to really try and extend the innings and then score runs in between. I think Scholesy (Verreynne) did really well today and Marco was special. And the other guys chipped in as well, which was awesome,” he said after the end of day’s play.

Muthusamy was aptly supported by Marco Jansen who just missed out on his maiden Test ton by 7 runs. The South Africa pacer hit 7 sixes in the innings of 93, which ties him at first place with Shahid Afridi as the player with the most sixes against India in a Test innings.

“Oh, it was incredible. I had the best seat in the house. That was special. Special ball striking. It was fantastic from him. It was awesome,” Muthusamy reacted to Jansen’s innings.

In the match, India safely reached 9/0 at stumps in reply to South Africa’s 489 in the first innings of the second Test after the second day’s play.

India, who had earlier sent down more than 151 overs to take 10 wickets here at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, were trailing by a massive 480 runs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was batting on 7, accompanied by KL Rahul on 2 not out when bad light forced an early stumps.
