Pakistan top order batter Sidra Amin has been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching its code of conduct during the Women’s World Cup 2025 match against India in Colombo on Sunday. The ICC said that Amin has been pulled up for forcefull hitting her bat on the pitch after she was dismissed in the 40th over of the Pakistan innings.

The ICC says that Amin has breached Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. It further said that the 33-year-old has been found guilty of breaching “Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel”, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”

The ICC further said that one demerit pint has been added to Amin’s disciplinary record. This is her first offence in a 24-month period. “Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points,” said the ICC.

“On-field umpires Lauren Agenbag and Nimali Perera, third umpire Kerrin Klaaste and fourth umpire Kim Cotton had levelled the charges.”

Amin has admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Shandré Fritz of the international panel of match referees, negating the need for a formal hearing, said the ICC. Amin, who came in to bat at No.3 was Pakistan’s highest run scorer. She walked in after opener Muneeba Ali was run out in rather controversial circumstances in the fourth over as Pakistan were chasing a target of 248. Despite her scoring 81 in 106 balls before falling to Sneh Rana, Pakistan were all out for 159 runs in 43 overs and India thus won the match by 88 runs.

India have won all 12 of the ODIs that they have played against Pakistan in Women’s cricket. Having won the toss, Pakistan captain Fatima Sana didn’t have any hesitation to bowl first, with the pitch in Colombo being under covers due to rain coming into the game. She went on to mention that the plan would be to restrict India below 250… which they actually ended up achieving too at 247, bowling India out for the first time in 12 meetings in this format. But it proved to be well beyond their reach, with Sidra Amin’s lone battle only giving them momentary hope of breaking the duck.
