MI vs RCB highlights, IPL 2025: Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Mumbai Indians by 12 runs

This has come to the last over and Mumbai needs 19 runs of it. They have competent hitters in Naman and Santner it is all about the execution of shots and keeping the cool. As per RCB, it is going to be Krunal Pandya who is going to take the over.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have changed the ball here. There doesn't seem to be a lot of dew however, the umpires have agreed to change it might have more to do with the humidity at this ground. Tilak has also gone past the half-century he did in 26 balls this is an excellent response from Tilak after what has happened in the last game against LSG. While the momentum is completely with Mumbai at this stage of the game they still have to get over the line. All the credit has to go to Hardik and how this game has changed. Wow! What a game this has been just out of nowhere it has all changed here. Grab your seat folks this is going down the wire. Both Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma are doing what seemed impossible not so long ago. It was all in RCB's control it now just seems like drifting away. While all the RCB bowlers are good with the new ball none of the three are known for death bowling capabilities. We are in the strategic time Mumbai needs 52 of 24 balls. It is not undoable but it is quite a tricky one. We did not have many close games this tournament but this is shaping up to be one.

Hardik Pandya has scored 20 runs off the first five balls here. It seems like regardless of what the match situation is right now Hardik has decided to hit every ball for a boundary and so far he has been successful. As we update Hardik hits another six. The stadium which has gone quiet not long ago has come alive. This seems to be a change in momentum needed in this game. Goodness, what a knock this has been from Hardik is playing here. If it is just and if Mumbai manages to go over the line in this game it just might be the game which will turn around the campaigns. 

Suryakumar Yadav has been put out of his misery in the middle. It was a slower one from Yash Dayal which he tried to hit through the off-side however, got high on the bat and the ball went high on the air and the long-on fielder took the catch. It is just getting difficult and difficult for Mumbai Indians. Skipper Hardik Pandya has walked in with plenty to do. It will take something miraculous for Mumbai even to get closer to this target. What a performance this has been from RCB so far. They have done everything in this game right so far.

Will Jacks got himself in and he had to score a big innings or he could have scored a quick-fire cameo. However, neither did happen he ended up playing an innings neither here nor there which has hurt the Mumbai Indians. They are drifting away from this game. Tilak Varma has come into the middle while he has a point to prove after what has happened in the last game but it still is too much work to do for anyone. Surya too has not been at his free-flowing best here and now that he has played the time he has he has to take the responsibility and shepherd this chase to take MI as close as possible.

The rate is now spiking up to 13s here. It is getting tricky for Mumbai. They are trying to target the smaller boundaries however, the bowlers well aware of what is coming have just bowling accordingly and are getting through their overs pretty quickly. Mumbai needs a big 20 plus over pretty quickly if they have to get back into this game. As of now RCB is eating away at the overs and the run-rate is just going up. It is not very often we have seen this with Mumbai but they just seem to be behind in terms of tactics to be used in games to get over the line and it has been happening again and again this season.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru had made the impact sub here. They have gone with Suyash Sharma. In the last game, they opted for Rasikh Salam Dar which did backfire a little. This is going to be an important spell for Suyash while he has impressed in his opening season for Kolkata he did fall down the pecking order in the last couple of years. While it is quite an unforgiving ground here in Wankhede he has the runs under his belt to defend and also Mumbai Indians are two down. It will be interesting to see how Mumbai will approach this chase from here on.

This has been a good start for RCB in their defense. Not only they pick up a couple of wickets but also ensured that Mumbai would not go away with this game. Both Will Jacks and Surya are quite attacking players but there is a lot of work to be done and the run rate already is looking very high. It will be interesting to see how Tilak Varma would go about his innings. He has been in quite a bit of a pickle with his form in recent times and he needs a performance tonight. Given the situation it is very touchy chase and the position to come in when he comes in it might just get even more tricker but that is what the job for him today is.

It is also interesting that Rajat Patidar has not thrown the new ball to Hazlewood today and it is Yash Dayal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar who have opened the bowling. It is quite an interesting move but it did work as they picked up Rohit Sharma early. Rickelton meanwhile has got himself a start here. He has played some lovely shots so far and Mumbai Indians will need him to put on 80 or so if they have to stay in the hunt. Meanwhile Will Jacks another player who has the reputation of scoring needs to do it quickly as well. As we update Hazlewood picks Rickelton.

Rohit Sharma has come in as an impact sub here and has started well thus far. He has scored a few good boundaries so far and it is important that Rohit has a good powerplay in the middle. As we update Yash Dayal picks up Rohit. The ball jagged back in Rohit playing across the line missed it. Another failure for Rohit and it seems like Deja Vu for Mumbai Indians this season. Will Jacks is walking into the middle and if Mumbai has to make anything out of this chase they need to score at least 80 runs in the powerplay or they will fall behind in this game.

That was pretty good. After losing a wicket on the second ball, we countered pretty nicely. Dev played a brilliant impact knock for us, really changed the momentum towards us. I got a few going as well. That partnership was really important for us to set that total on the board. My strength is to get my touch and feel of the ball early on, then I can play the shots I that I want to. I tried to innovate a bit, tried to play different shots off spin as well and then tried to hit different areas of the ground. You need to keep evolving your game and keep up with the demands of the situation in T20 cricket. When I time the ball nicely early on, I have better chances to contribute.(On Padikkal) When Salty goes early, one of the guys needs to have an impact straightaway and Dev kind of did that for us. He's done that for 2-3 games now, a big score is around the corner for him. He deserves it, he's hitting the ball so well. That partnership was important for us to go deeper into the innings, get guys like Jitesh Livi and Tim David towards the back-end of the innings. What Rajat did is what Rajat does most often. It was a great innings by those two as well - Rajat and Jitesh really got us those extra 20-25 runs. One of their spinners was out of the game. It was difficult for the chinaman to bowl. That gave us 20-25 runs. What happened with wickets not falling was one of their spinners was out of the game and that played out to be an important factor for us because we knew once the spinner is out of the game, then the fast bowler with shorter boundaries will find it tough. The wicket wasn't as straightforward as it seemed. Hardik was taking pace off the ball consistently and wasn't really coming onto the bat. We have a good score on the board. We were how many I don't nil in Chepauk for 17 years, hopefully we break that jinx today. We've got a strong bowling line-up, early inroads in the powerplay will really help.

That is a massive total RCB has put on. Yes, it is a good wicket but chasing 222 is going to be hard regardless of the power in the batting lineup. Mumbai will need flawless powerplay, middle overs and set-batters in the end if they have to do it. It has to be a perfect chase. As per RCB, it is just chipping taking one over at a time and pulling this game from Mumbai's feet and they do have the pace attack in fact to finish of this game by the first six overs. Trent Boult did pick up a wicket in that first over however, he did have a day to forget so far. The batters have gone after him and he simply did not have the answers. It is that stage of the tournament where the senior players need to step up and turn around results however, it just seems to be going in the wrong direction for Mumbai Indians this season yet again. It is too premature to predict things too far ahead but if Mumbai won't find bowlers who can restrict teams in the powerplay they will fall behind in the games and every time that happens they will end up concerning more than par score. Rajat Patidar with a six got to his half-century. It has been a superb inning from Patidar. He took his time initially however, since he moved into his 30s he certainly changed from gear three to five in no time. This is getting brutal for assault. Despite those couple of wickets in the middle overs, the pressure has not been sustained and it does seem like Bengaluru are going to put up a huge total on this wicket MI will need all their power resources to get this total. Once again in addition to some good batting, Mumbai Indians have bowled some pretty ordinary deliveries in the middle.

Hardik Pandya with the ball has again turned the momentum in this game. First, it was Kohli who walked across the stumps and tried to hit it on the leg-side however, he would hit it straight to square leg fielder, and then Liam Livingstone would come in try to play a scoop and get caught at third-man. It is a good passage of play for Mumbai. They need to build on the momentum from here on and restrict Bengaluru below the 210 mark. From Bengaluru's perspective they have Patidar in the middle and they would be hoping their skipper would play till the end and take them somewhere around 220-240 mark.

We have reached the second strategic time but things are not looking promising for Mumbai. One good thing so far from Mumbai's perspective is it is a very good wicket however, they also need to be wary of the RCB bowling attack which has quite a bit of functional bunch in Bhuvneshwar, Hazlewood, and Yash Dayal who are experienced and know-how on bowling on flat decks like these and all of them are most importantly in form. Anything over 220 will be a lot for MI given how dependent they or Suryakumar Yadav in terms of their batting. 

Mitchell Santner coming into the season has been in top form. However, the form did not translate into anything for Mumbai so far. Once again what a good economy in modern times is up for debate however, he also has failed to pick wickets this season which is concerning. When he was bowling in the Champions Trophy there was a guile which he would bowl with. The ball would skid on superbly the pace variation would be spot on. However, playing for Mumbai so far he has been throwing it flat and looking to contain the runs instead of doing the damage. 

It is Vignesh Puthur who does the magic. It was a tossed-up delivery and Paddikal while trying to hit into the stands was beaten in flight. It was a fabulous delivery tossing it up nicely. Puthur despite the smaller boundaries here in Wankhede seems to be quite brave with his bowling which did give him the result with the wicket of Padikkal. Skipper Rajat Patidar has walked into the middle and it will be interesting to see how RCB will take this innings from here on. While Padikkal will look to pounce on the first opportunity possible it is more about who Kohli.

Apart from the game against Kolkata Knight Riders how often have Mumbai fallen behind in the powerplay this season? While the likes of Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar are bonafide new ball bowlers who have done some great things in the past however, fifth game of the season Mumbai might consider rethinking their new-ball pairing. Today they did have Bumrah and yes, while he was coming back after an injury and looked rusty but by the time he came into the attack he had to put off the flames. The damage was done in the third over when Boult leaked plenty. 

Virat Kohli is looking good touch here. He is playing some lovely shots. The cover drive of Boult was the stand out so far. While he has been always consistent what has been heartwarming to see is the approach. He is scoring his runs at quite a brisk pace here. They have laid a very good foundation in the powerplay here did Bengaluru. Mumbai's problems with or without Bumrah seem to persist in the powerplay. They need to find ways to bowl better in this phase of the game and preferably look for other methods to pick wickets other than just looking for swing or pulling it back and hitting the deck when there is no moment.

Virat Kohli reached 13,000 runs in T20 cricket during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Indian Premier League 2025 match against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday.

The 36-year-old Kohli reached the milestone when he touched 17 runs during his innings. Kohli is the first Indian to reach the 13,000 T20 runs landmark and only the fifth batter overall to achieve the feat. (Read more)

As expected Boult in his second over took a bit of tapping. As has been the case with these white balls the seam does not stay prominent for long and already the ball stopped swinging anything pitched was drivable and anything bowled short was pullable. It is going to be getting quite tricky for both sides here because RCB in the last couple of years did come to this ground and did put on some decent scores however, Mumbai would get over the line quite comfortably. This is once again a very good wicket and RCB should look to get around 220-240 if they want to challenge this power-packed Mumbai lineup.

Phil Salt drives one for four of the first ball and Trent Boult follows it up with an in-swinger which Salt would miss and lose his leg-stump. Devdutt Padikkal comes in and he starts with an elegant drive through the off-side. While it is a flat deck there is some swing on offer here. Boult is getting to move the ball both ways and it is a feature here in Wankhede always. Regardless once the seam goes flat batting will get easy and plenty of runs are there for the taking today here in Wankhede. Meanwhile, Deepak Chahar has taken the new ball from the other end. 

The stadium is buzzing here in Mumbai and why not it is one of the marquee fixtures in the IPL calendar. It will be a very interesting contest as it is not very often Bengaluru comes to Wankhede with the form they are in they would be hoping to make the most of it and defeat Mumbai who did not hit their mark either.

"In the first game that was played at this stadium in this season, KKR were bowled out for 116 but that was on pitch number 6, this is pitch number 8 today. Dimensions - 66m and 61m square boundaries, 74m straight. It's a little windy today - gusting up to 36 kph, you just wonder whether that's gonna have an effect on the dew. We know that when the dew comes here at the Wankhede, the ball flies everywhere and teams generally like to chase. I think that might have an influence tonight. When we look down at this surface, it's rock hard, it's got an even coverage of grass but it's a little bit bare. Don't expect a lot of spin on this surface and it should be a high-scoring surface. Mumbai have found it tough in the powerplay. They have got two of the all time legends in the IPL - Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar and they've found it hard in the powerplay so far. Whereas when you look at RCB, the best economy rate in the powerplay in this IPL so far and that's with the class and bounce of Josh Hazlewood and the experience of Bhuvneshwar Kumar who has been brilliant. It'll be interesting to see if there's any movement with this gusting wind out here."

It's a typical Mumbai wicket, will be good to bat. It's important to play good cricket. Bowling unit, it's difficult to bowl here but I am very confident. We have played a lot of cricket, it's pretty clear what we need to do at every venue. We are playing with the same team

We are gonna bowl first. This looks like a good track, dew might come in later. When dew comes, the wicket gets better. It always plays well for both teams. Time to get some good cricket behind us and do the right things. Mumbai has always been supporting us. Playing at home makes it different. The crowd is behind you and you are aware of the conditions. Jassie (Bumrah) is back and so is Ro (Rohit).

Twenty-three-year-old fast bowler Ashwani Kumar had a successful outing playing for Mumbai Indians against Kolkata Knight Riders, dismissing key batsmen. Meanwhile, his father, Harkesh Kumar, was reminded of Ashwani's earlier struggles, particularly the 11 km cycle rides his son would take from their village to the stadium to play cricket. As per AccuWeather, the temperature in Mumbai during the start of the Mumbai Indians versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru game will be 33 degrees Celsius. But as the evening wears on, the temperature will fall down to 30 degrees Celsius. Humidity is expected to be between 36% to 57% during the game. There is no hint of rain as the sky in Mumbai is clear on Monday.

The pitch at the Wankhede Stadium is known to favour batters. This is because of a combination of red-soil at the venue and small boundaries at the iconic stadium that is expected to make the Mumbai Indians versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru match a high-scoring one. Expect the team that wins the toss today to opt to bowl first as dew is expected in the second innings.

We needed to take control, which we had in our last one Wankhede game. So, if we can try and be aggressive as we were and execute, that is something that we are looking forward to. And keep building on it. I think the GT game was something that, in my mind, we were not in the game. All the other games, we were right in it. Even against LSG, we fought well. We were in a situation where we could have won. We just did not have that clinical execution. So, as long as we are playing good cricket, and if we can be ruthless in areas where we need to be ruthless as a unit, that is something that I am working with the boys to make sure that that execution is there." -
