Wonderful catch taken at extra covers. Will Jacks looks to play on the rise but soft hands from Rahane help him take a sharp catch. Second for Russell. Suryakumar Yadav joins Rickelton at the middle and gets off the mark with a SIX! He brings out his trademark lap shot, He reaches to the line of the outside off stumps ball to play very fine at fine leg.

Sunil Narine for his second over. SIX! Rickelton goes on backfoot, smacked one over deep mid-wicket for a big maximum to get to his maiden IPL half-century! SIX! Even bigger. Massive hit over long-on and he looks in a rush to finish this game for Mumbai. 16 from this over as MI need 28 in 10 overs.

Third change in the attack. Sunil Narine comes in for Andre Russell which means spin from both ends. Will Jacks starts the over with a single. SIX! Length ball on middle, Rickelton stretches to pay slog sweep over deep mid-wicket. He cuts the next ball towards point region for a single. Narine beats Will Jacks to hit his pads and this looks close for LBW. The umpire says not out so Rahane goes upstairs but the on-filed call stays the same because of the umpire's call. 8 off this over. Strategic time-out. 

MI 70/1 in 8 overs

Varun Chakaravarthy continues. The mystery spinner is able to put shackles against MI batters. Both Will Jacks and Rickelton are also not in any mood to take unnecessary risks against him. They are happy with singles. FOUR! Clever, very clever from Rickelton who brings out reverse sweep to play it at backward point. Good over for MI against Varun. 7 from it.  

MI 62/1 in 7 overs

A second change in the bowling attack. Andre Russell comes from the other end, replacing Harshit Rana. He oversteps the first ball to start with a NO BALL. All Rickeltton could manage was a single on the free hit. OUT! Rohit falls and fails, yet again for the third time in a row. He will be disappointed with his poor run. Russell keeps it away from Rohit, outside off, Rohit tries to muscle it down the ground but cannot clear mid-off and offers a simple catch to Harshit Rana. He falls after scoring 13 of 12. In comes Will Jacks at No. 3. He gets off the mark with a single at backward point. 

First change in the bowling attack. Varun Chakaravarthy comes into the attack for Spener Johnson. Rohit gets a single, only on the third ball before playing out two dots. Rickelton, too, plays a dot before taking a single at wide of long on on the fifth ball. Rohit ends the over without taking any risks. Just two from Varun's first over.  

MI 44/0 in 5 overs

Harshit Rana continues from the other end. Rana to Rickelton, hits the pad and a huge appeal for LBW follows. But an inside edge saves Rickelton yet again. FOUR! This will hurt Rana. Bowls fuller, slower into the middle, Rickelton brings out his straight drive. SIX! Even better, Short, angles into the left-hander, drilled away over deep mid-wicket with a stunning pull shot. FOUR! Two dot balls before Rickelton ends the over with another boundary. Low full toss outside off, this time Rickelton slaps it at mid-off. End of the fourth over, 14 came from it. 

MI 42/0 in 4 overs 

Spencer Johnson continues. Rickelton punches the outside off delivery over point for a couple. FOUR! First boundary for Rickelton who has been quite lucky so far. Full ball, Rickelton gets over the ball and looks to play over mid-wicket but beats short fine fielder with an inside edge. SIX! Another swing, another edge this time it gives full six runs to Rickelton and he is riding on his luck at the moment. Short ball outside off, Rickelton gets top edge which runs over third man for a maximum. He keeps the strike for the next over with a single off the last ball. 13 from this one.

Harshit Rana from the other end. Rohit on strike, JAFFA! Oh what a ball, it came in a mile, shrugged off the pad before QDK collected it behind. Another one that misses bat, and hits the pads, this too came in for the right-hander and Rohit is clueless at the moment. Slower one, this time, Rohit places it towards mid-wicket. NO BALL! Another big inswinger, almost yorked Rohit who somehow managed to play at mid-wicket for a double. Turns out, Rana overstepped. Free hit and SIX! Finally, Rohit breaks the shackles. Full toss outside off, Rohit stands back and slams it to long-off. 14 off the over.

The Australian quick, Spencer Johnson, starts over the wicket for Rohit Sharma. Nice, quick delivery on length on middle, Rohit plays it on square leg for a single to get off the mark. Ryan Rickleton gets on the strike. BEATEN. Johnson gets a decent swing on this one, Rickleton tries to tap but the ball shapes away from him. BEATEN AGAIN! This time an inswinger and Quinton de Kock dives on his right to collect this ball. BEATEN FOR THE THIRD TIME! Rickleton is yet to make any contact with the ball. Outswinger this time. MAKE IT FOURTH BALL THAT HAS BEATEN Rickleton on the bounce. Finally, he gets contact but a fifth dot to end the over. Just one from the over.

Mitch Santner with his last over. SIX! Ramandeep is making a difference here. Slower ball from Santner, Ramandeep goes aerial over long-on for a maximum. OUT! SIX and out and Kolkata put down the sword. 116 all-out! Santner induced an outside edge and skipper Pandya at short third completed a simple catch to dismiss Ramandeep who scored 22 off 12. Mumbai Indians need 117 to win.

Another change, Trent Boult comes in for Mitch Santner. Ramandeep pulls the first ball at deep mid-wicket to get two. There was run out chance which MI missed. SIX! Ramandeep keeps the fight going for KKR. Picks up the slower ball, deposits it in the stand over deep mid-wicket. Nine from this over.

Change in bowling. In comes Vignesh Puthur for Ashwani Kumar. FOUR! Welcome boundary for Ramandeep Singh. Flighted delivery on off, Ramandeep plays it over extra cover to start the over with a boundary, taking KKR near 100. He gets a single off the next ball. OUT! All bowling changes from Hardik have worked like a charm today. Rana falls after holing out to Naman Dhir who dives on his front to complete a stunning catch. Vignesh keeps it away from Rana, who takes one stride forward to play a slog sweep but departs after scoring 4 of 8. Spencer Johnson, the last man for KKR joins Ramandeep. He gets off the mark with a single which takes KKR to 100. 8 from this over.

Mitchell Santner with his third over as well. Rana confidently defends the ball on front foot to start the over with a dot. A thick outside edge-inducing shot gives three runs off the next ball to Rana before Ramandeep gets off the mark after playing a dot. Just four from this over.  

KKR 94/8 in 14 overs

Ashwani Kumar with his third over. FOUR! Short ball on off, Russell slaps hard on extra cover to start the over with a confident boundary. Ashwani follows it up with back-to-back short ball, denying Russell any runs. OUT! Change of length worked again! Two short ball before bowling a length ball and Russell completely missed out on reading the length as the ball crashed onto the stumps, giving Ashwani his fourth wicket of the night. Top-class bowling from the left-arm pacer. Harshit Rana joins Ramandeep Singh. 6 from this over.

Santner continues. Santner to Rusell, OUT! Santner traps Russell in front for leg with a ball which kept straight but Russell asks for DRS and the decision has been OVERTURNED TO NOT OUT after the ball tracking showed it was going over the stumps. Just four from this over. 

KKR 84/7 in 12 overs

Ashwani Kumar comes back into the attack in place of Hardik. Manish Pandey starts the over with a single at square leg. FOUR! Rinku plays the short ball beautifully over covers for a boundary. OUT! Ashwani gets the last laugh against Rinku! Rinku walked down the track and sliced it behind square but Naman Dhir was positioned there and he completed a rather straightforward catch. Andre Russell is the new batter in at eight. Ashwani bowls a WIDE, short ball over the batter's head. Russell gets a single off the pads. FOUR! Pandey plays it down the ground. OUT! Make it third scalp for the debutant. Can't ask anything else from him. Change of lengths, keep it in the middle and CLEAN BOWLED Pandey. KKR seven down. 11 runs and two wickets from this over.

Mitchell Santner into the attack for Vignesh Puther. He keeps it tight and bowls a four-run over.  

KKR 69/5 in 10 overs

Hardik Pandya with his second over. Rinku Singh and Manish Pandey are tasked to take KKR into a safer territory and for that, they need a big partnership from here on. Just two singles from the first four balls as Hardik looks to sneak out with a cheap over but Manish rocks back and plays a good-looking pull short for a FOUR! He makes it a six-run over for KKR. Time for a strategic time-out.

Vignesh Puther has been introduced by Hardik. He comes into the attack for Deepak Chahar. KKR bring in Manish Pandey as an Impact Sub for Raghuvanshi. Pandey gets off the mark with a SIX! Short, slow google and Pandey reads it quickly, goes to backfoot and pulls it over cow corner to get going. SIX! Rinku ends the over with a maximum. Flighted delivery, Rinku shimmies down the track and clears the long-off fence. 14 from this over.

Skipper Hardik Pandya comes into the attack. He replaces Trent Boult. Raghuvanshi gets a single after starting the over with a dot. Rinku Singh gets off the mark on the fourth ball with a couple. A single in the next ball takes Raguvanshi on the strike. OUT! KKR sinking deep here, five down now. Short ball, take pace off the ball and Raghuvanshi pulls it straight to Naman Dhir. KKR in big trouble. Just four and a wicket off this over. 

KKR 45/5 in 7 overs

Deepak Chahar returns after one over break. FOUR! Raghuvanshi playing some positive cricket and keeps the scoreboard ticking for KKR. Overpitched delivery in middle, Raghuvanshi drives it straight for a boundary to start the over. OUT! Second wicket for Deepak Chahar and Mumbai Indians are absolutely dominating the Powerplay. Short ball worked like a charm for Chahar who angled in the delivery for Iyer who sliced it to the keeper. KKR four down. Rinku Singh, who joins Raghuvanshi at middle, plays out the over. Five of this.

Ashwani Kumar, the 23-year-old fast bowler from Punjab was handed his Indian Premier League debut for the Mumbai Indians in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders in Wankhede on Monday. The left arm seamer garnered attention with his ability to bowl brilliantly in the slog overs and has plenty of variations in his kitty.

In the 2025 mega auction, he was roped in by the Mumbai Indians for Rs 30 lakhs. He was also the leading wicket taker in the 2023 Sher-E-Punjab Trophy, helping his side win the silverware which caught the eyes of the MI scouts.

Left-arm pacer Ashwani Kumar comes into the attack. Can the debutant surprise today? OUT! Yes, answers Ashwani! Instant impact and a dream debut for this Punjab pacer who starts his IPL career with a wicket. Full ball, outside off, gets decent bounce and Rahane slices it towards backward point where Tilak Varma juggled to take this catch. What a moment for this young man. Venkatesh Iyer walks in at No. five. DROPPED! Very tough but still a chance for MI. Iyer gets a reprieve and opens an account with a single after a thick outside edge was grassed by Mitch Santner at backward point. SIX! Crunched the short ball over long leg. 8 and a wicket off this over. 

KKR 36/3 in 4 overs

Trent Boult continues.. Raghuvanshi takes a single off the first delivery, keeping Rahane on strike. SIX! This is a powerful shot from Rahane. Short ball, Boult didn't get enough swing but Rahane brings out his bat swing for a pull over deep mid-wicket. A single follow. Raghuvanshi pulls the slower ball for a quick couple before playing out the rest of the over. 10 from this.

KKR 25/2 in 3 overs

Deepak Chahar into the attack from the other end. The right-arm medium pacer starts over the wicket. He starts with a WIDE outside offside. Deepak to QDK, OUT! Second wicket gone, big one for MI! Deepak keeps it away from de Kock as the batter walks down the track, plays it on mid-off where debutant Ashwani Kumar was positioned. QDK could manage just 1 of 3 in this innings. Angrish Raghuvanshi joins Rahane at the middle and starts with a cracking boundary to get off the mark. He flicks the ball on leg to get going. FOUR again! This time he cuts it through mid-wicket. A single puts Rahane on strike for the last ball and he too ends the over with a FOUR! Full and in the middle and Rahane times it down the ground for a sublime boundary. 14 off the over but big wicket of Quinton de Kock. 

KKR 15/2 in 2 overs

Trent Boult starts over the wicket against Quinton de Kock. Dot to start the innings, good length ball on off, QDK punches off the front foot. He gets off the mark with a single after tapping the next ball at mid-off region. Sunil Narine is on strike now, dot delivery. Fuller ball, shapes away for the lefty and he plays it at mid-off. OUT! Wow, Boult strikes early. Full, in the middle and yorked Narine by cramping him to CLEAN BOWLED the left-hander. He departs for a two-ball duck. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane is the new batter in at No. 3. He ends the over with a couple of dot deliveries as Boult gives away just a single off his first over.

Openers Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine walk out to bat for visitors KKR. Interesting to see who gets the new ball for MI, Deepak Chahar or Trent Boult. Okay, so it is Boult who starts. 

Good toss to win for host Mumbai Indians, who are at the bottom of the points table and the only team that hasn't won a match yet in the IPL 2025. With due coming into play and a belter strip for batting, fielding first will give an advantage to the five-time champion. The recent history, however, favours the defending champion, KKR which have gone on to win 4 out of the last 5 matches against MI. 

Ajinkya Rahane: We wanted to bowl first as well but I was confused looking at the wicket, generally Wankede is a good batting surface so I feel it's a good toss to lose. There's a little breeze going on, no dew factor to deal with. We will look to post a good total on the board and I have confidence in our bowlers to defend. We are playing good cricket, every games gives a good opportunity to play good cricket. Lovely ground, we are looking to play good cricket. Sunil (Narine) comes in in place of Mooen (Ali).

Hardik Pandya: We're going to bowl first, looks like a good track. Knowing Wankhede, dew may or may not come in. There might be some early swing, it plays well so we thought chasing is a good option. We want to get into good rhythm and kickstart. Overall, we want to play better cricket, we need to stay calm. Will Jacks comes back and we have a debutant - Ashwani Kumar.

Hardik Pandya won the toss for Mumbai Indians and he elected to bowl first against Ajinkya Rahane's Kolkata Knight Riders. 

We have an absolute belter. We have a beautiful covering of grass and underneath it's really hard, it means it's a batter's paradise. I'm looking forward to the spin twins, Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine. The better bowlers always find a way to defend on these kind of surfaces. But, the faster and faster you bowl, the farther you will travel. You are playing dead-center of the ground and you have options to play with. A bouncer is a good option to suprise batters and to not allow them to line you up. 

According to AccuWeather, the temperature in Mumbai will be 32 degrees Celsius at the beginning of the match. But as the evening progresses, the mercury will fall down to 30 degrees Celsius. The humidity is predicted to fluctuate between 39% to 52% during the game. Even though the sky will have a hint of clouds, there is a negligible possibility of rain.

The pitch at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai has traditionally been a high-scoring surface. Recently, former cricketer Robin Uthappa had listed the Wankhede Stadium as one of the five venues hosting IPL games that will possibly see a team scoring 300 runs in a game.

Wankhede Stadium has notoriously small boundaries coupled with red soil surface, so expect the conditions at the iconic stadium where India won the 2011 World Cup to be favourable to the batters. Logic dictates that the team winning the toss will want to field first in the IPL.

While the cricketing world awaits the return of Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah post a back injury, there have been talks that the 31-year-old can make a return to competitive cricket for Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Bumrah, who suffered back spasms during the Sydney Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy early this year, started bowling in the nets at NCA Bengaluru earlier this week. Former Mumbai Indians bowling coach and pacer Shane Bond believes that the Indian pace spearhead needs to take his time for the return to competitive cricket.

“Psychologically, it’s a challenge. I still had times when I played with my back really locked up, my muscles down my back would spasm. I always tell my players, take a week at the front end and that could save you six months at the back end. Spend a little bit longer in your preparation and your build-up because it will give you a better chance to stay on the field. Obviously from a Rajasthan Royals standpoint, I don’t really want to see Bumrah, but I do want to see him back on the field. I do hope they take it conservatively to give him the best chance to come back and come back for the next however long he wants to play,” Bond, who is now the bowling coach of Rajasthan Royals, told ESPNCricinfo.

After the defeat to Rajasthan Royals, CSK coach Stephen Fleming explained the team management’s decision-making process behind Dhoni coming in later than most pundits and fans were expecting him to.

Kolkata Knight Riders’ Sunil Narine has been declared fit before their next IPL game against Mumbai Indians. KKR’s coach Chandrakant Pandit informed that the all-rounder has recovered from his ill-health which made him sit out at their last match against Rajasthan Royals. “Sunil is 100% fit. He has definitely recovered well and he’s been practising since yesterday (Saturday). Today he is practising as well so he is absolutely fine at the moment,” Pandit informed on eve of their third IPL game at Wankhede Stadium to be played on Monday.
