SRH vs RR Highlights, IPL 2025: RR lose by 44 runs after Ishan ton powers SRH to second highest total of all time

A stunning Ishan Kishan century is the headliner from Hyderabad. There was some concern for him late on but there were some encouraging images after the match as he seemed to walk alright, in a brisk pace. So maybe just a short-term knee-pain. 

All in all, a good day for SRH who look like they are going to just pick up from last season as far as their batting is concerned. Some good signs in bowling too, with Harshal stepping up with his cutters. 

ROHIT SHARMA OUT FOR A DUCK IN THE FIRST OVER

FOLLOW CSK VS MI HERE. 

RR, rather quite decently, have limited the margin of defeat to 44 runs.... which, at one stage, could have been much worse. Thanks to half centuries for Samson and Jurel, and some useful cameos elsewhere. 

But once again SRH have laid down the batting marker for this year. A word of appreciation for Harshal Patel though. On a nightmare afternoon for bowlers, he finishes with 4-0-32-2

Another cameo from a RR player ends, Hetmyer got a life from Cummins putting down a catch, smashes a six after that, then is caught by Manohar at long off. Well deserved for Harshal.

ISHAN KISHAN: Still lying down on his back near the boundary rope where he got injured, with an ice pack on his left knee. 

During that Cummins over, there was more attention being paid to Ishan's knee. He still looks in some pain, looked to be getting back up on his feet and then they was a call for some protection it seemed like. One to keep an eye on. Cummins, meanwhile, finishes the night with 0/60. Not a good night for premium overseas pacers. 15 runs in that over as Hetmyer changes bat and smacks one high into the night sky. 

Oh no, oh no. That doesn't look good. Ishan hasn't taken the gloves tonight with Klaasen keeping wickets. And he dives in the outfield to try and stop a four and seems to have jammed his knee hard into the ground. He is in a lot of pain, holding his knee as he gets some treatment. Meanwhile, it is another big over for RR. Four and six for Hetmyer, six and four for Shubham who is playing a lovely little cameo. 

Shubham Dubey, in what is set to be a losing cause for RR, is no doing no harm to his reputation as a power-hitter! Three sixes in that Pat Cummins over. A slog over midwicket is standard fare, but that slice over cover on the offside was... UFF, some shot! Off the last ball, a mishit goes for six. 

We saw this last year as well in some of the high-scoring matches that RR were involved in, they somehow always manage to sneak in some low-scoring overs in the backend. Plenty of cutters, as you'd expect from Harshal Patel. 

Meanwhile in Chennai, CSK have won the toss and opted to bowl first.

And that's the end of what little hope RR might have had. Might even end up hurting their NRR really badly. Jurel played well, started superbly, handbrakes in the middle phase, then took off again to finish with a 35-ball 70 for a strike rate of 200.

An 81m-six for Sanju Samson over mid off, but he is out off the last ball of the 14th over. A solid innings from the RR captain. 

Sanju Samson c Heinrich Klaasen b Harshal Patel 66 (37 balls)

After a couple of overs of struggling, a free hit frees up Jurel. He gets to his half century off 28 balls. He follows that up with two more sixes, one cutely cut over short third. Simarjeet copping a few blows here as Samson finishes the over with a four. 

A 26-run over! But it only reduces the RR from above 20 to around 19.

He was on 44 off 17 balls at one stage but the boundaries have dried up and the SRH bowling and fielding has slowed him down. Cummins back into the attack and he should have had a wicket. Shami with an ordinary effort to his left, going with one hand instead of two at short fine lg. And he is walking off the field, seems to have done some damage to his left hand. Another brilliant over that, just three singles. 7 runs, 7 singles in the last two overs.

Damage limitation it is for RR now. Required rate is nearly 20. 

In that previous over, where just four singles were scored, Cummins and Simarjeet stopped a couple of boundaries with their sharp fielding too. 

Just four singles! In a match that has been a run-fest, Zampa and Abhishek have now bowled a 4-run over and 5-run over... two overs combined for 9 runs. There is a bit more help for spin in the second half, and it makes RR's decision to bowl first look ALL THE MORE poor. 

Sanju Samson, playing just as a batter today as Impact Sub, scores a fine 26-ball half century, in all likelihood to be in a losing cause. But that will the RR dugout something to take away from Hyderabad. Meanwhile Jurel is playing a gem too, moving to 46 off 19 balls with a six in that Harshal Patel over. Otherwise a nice over that by Harshal. 

Another good over for Royals that, but unfortunately for them, even a 12-run over 4 below par at this stage with the required rate in the 16s. Jurel hits Abhishek for a lovely inside-out lofted drive for six, and finishes the over with a four over short fine. 

Zampa is welcomed into the match with a big shot down the ground, a well-timed shot. And finishes the over with a four down the ground. This is a really good partnership so far between Jurel and Samson. 14 runs in that over. 

So that's good news for SRH fans, the local favourite – an absolute gun fielder – is back on the field as well.

That feels like an anomaly and it comes from the part-time left-armer Abhishek Sharma. Some turn too in that over, hmm, interesting. Sanju beaten by one that was flighted and it was actually very close to a stumping. Third umpire rules it not out but that was touch and go. Just one four in that over and that too came off a misfield. 

Jurel welcomes Cummins into the attack with a superb shot for over long on. Follows that up with a couple of well-timed fours, the second one just evading the SRH captain's reach on his follow through. The powerplay ends with a streaky for Jurel just past Shami at short fine. An expensive over as RR finish powerplay on 77/3. 

Has NKR done some mischief? Great attempt in the outfield to try and prevent a four but the ball goes for four. But Nitish looks to be in pain, he's getting treatment as Cummins comes on to bowl the last over of the powerplay. Jurel is the new batter in. 

This was bound to happen with RR having to go hard early on in the chase. Shami too gets in on the act and Cummins takes another skier. Mishit from Nitish and he is caught at mid off. Going awfully wrong for RR here. They might need to start considering damage limitation.

Simarjeet is realy cranking it up in Hyderabad but Samson is a master at using the pace to his advantage. A lovely upper cut for six, that is all timing. The over finishes with a four, another lovely square cut from Samson. He is looking in good touch, one of the positives RR can take away from what is looking like a defeat. Misfield from NKR off the last ball, unlike him. 

Oh Shami unlucky there. Really good delivery to Nitish Rana, great angle from round the wicket, finds the outside edge but it flies off it for a four. Nitish then swats one over mid on for another four. 10 runs in that Shami over. 

Simarjeet Singh up from the opposite end

Simarjeet's snappy bumper soars past a leaping Klaasen for FOUR byes. Jaiswal attempts a hook but there's no way he could have gotten bat on ball there. Pretty sharp on the speedometer as well, up to mid-140ks. Simarjeet to Jaiswal, OUT! Straight to the man! Simarjeet pushes the ball up and outside off and Jaiswal flays it to a diving Manohar at point. Riyan Parag is in and he falls second ball! The RR stand-in skipper biffs the first ball through the square and miscues another skiddy short ball at 145kph!

Jaiswal's off the blocks with a single before Sanju Samson opens his account with a gentle swivel-pull behind square off Shami for SIX! Fraction wide and Samson eases into a slap through cover for FOUR. Shami pitches it further up but Samson's deep in the crease, slicing the ball past point this time for FOUR more.

Oh geez. Only this SRH side can plunder 286 and still make you wonder whether they could have just gotten a few more for that 300. Madness. Two wickets back-to-back in that final over by Sandeep Sharma, and that puts the brakes A LITTLE BIT on SRH's charge towards 300. Ishan Kishan finishes with a four to be unbeaten on 106 off 47 deliveries. 

SRH: 286/6 in 20 overs, second highest IPL total behind their own 287. 

TWO SIXES AND A TWO AND ISHAN TAKES OFF! A big celebration from the debut man for SRH as he takes off his helmet and runs around with joy. It's been a remarkable comeback to form and a memorable first outing for his new franchise. 

Is 300 back on the cards? SRH reach 273 with an over to go! WOWZER. 

Is that the wicket that prevents the first 300 of IPL? You'd have to say so. Sandeep Sharma delivers the big breakthrough, a good yorker that was taken at long on. A good yorker is always a weapon. Klaasen did manage to get underneath it but it was too close to his toes and the distance wasn't there.

44 runs in 2 overs to reach 300. Surely not unthinkable? 

Archer bowled 1 dot ball in his 4 overs. 

Perhaps on the bright side, his season can get only better from here. 

An Archer Nightmare. Jofra's final over starts with a beamer past Ishan Kishan's head that the batter manages to sway away from. It goes for four though. And a free hit (which is just a single). But Klaasen smashes a hat-trick of fours, to make it another expensive over by Archer. Ishan adds the icing on the cake off the last ball as SRH cross 250 with two overs to go. 

ARCHER: 76 runs off his 4 overs! OUCH.

It was looking like a wonderful over of death bowling by Sandeep Sharma, a lovely yorker off the fourth ball was keeping SRH quiet. And then Klaasen tees off. A gigantic six off the the fifth ball, smashes over midwicket with his signature ability to pick up length quickly. Last ball is sliced over point.

287+ is definitely on the cards here.

LALITH KALIDAS: Statement opening to the SRH season yet again, equalling the fastest IPL team 200. Triple incoming.

Tushar Deshpande has actually bowled quite well and even in that over, unlucky as he induces a proper outside edge off Klaasen, running past short third for a four. Even the first ball four for Ishan was a streaky one, completely mistimed it but it evaded a leaping Parag at mid off. He has been the best bowler on display so far today. But needed a bit more luck. 

Time for the 2nd timeout. Phew. Are we getting closer to the first 300? 81 away with 4 overs to go... so maybe unlikely. Maybe. 

Ishan Kishan continues on his merry way. A reverse sweep for four as Theekshana also concedes a half century of runs. He finishes his spell with 2/52. Two big wickets, but went for a few too. 

That looked like a good helicopter-esque flick by NKR but no, it hasn't got the power on it. YBJ takes a good catch running in from midwicket. The move to bring back Theekshana pays off for Parrag and RR. But unfortunately for them, it brings Klaasen to the center. More carnage incoming.

200 comes up in the 15th over. Just SRH things. 

THREE SIXES IN A N OVER AGAIN! Oh dear oh dear. Farooqi gets the treatment now. Two sixes for Ishan over the leg side, And sandwiched between those two is a stylish pull from NKR. Madness. 

This is a nightmare for Parag and RR. That decision to bowl first on a batting belter in an afternoon game is looking poorer with every over. What were the Royals thinking? Were they thinking? 

It's a half century for Jofra Archer too, just in his third over. It's been a nightmare return to the IPL for the English pacer as Ishan Kishan smashes three sixes in that over. Michael Clarke reckons on commentary that Archer looks undercooked. 

It's been a slightly stop-start knock so far but all said and done, a 25-ball half century is no mean feat! Ishan Kishan makes a mark on his SRH debut, getting to the landmark with back-to-back sixes off Jofra Archer. First, a pull behind the wicket and then a lofted shot over the offside. The second one a brilliant shot. 

NO BOUNDARY IN THE OVER! The first over of the match without a single boundary being hit. Terrifc from Tushar Deshpande, changing his pace well. Ishan Kishan struggled for timing in that over. Tushar in fact unlucky with one of the wide calls and one other was overturned on review. 

Local boy Nitish wasting no time in getting going. Archer back into the attack and he has been carted around once more, after a 23-run first over. Two fours by NKR, either side of the wicket. The second one, an absolutely gorgeously timed pull shot past midwicket. Ishan, meanwhile, has been quiet for a while now (despite going at nearly 200, hasn't had much of the strike). 

Nitish Kumar Reddy, who has been out of action since Australia, is in the middle at No 4 for SRH. They are holding back Klaasen. 

Relief for RR! Tushar Deshpande strikes in his first over. Head continues his charge with a swat over mid on for another four. But Deshpande strikes. Full ball outside the offstump and Head picks out in the fielder at wide mid off. Huge roar from the bowler. That could be a target saver! 

Travis Head c Shimron Hetmyer b Tushar Deshpande 67 (31 balls)

Phew, that over feels like gold dust given how this match has gone on so far. Travis Head, not for the first time in his career and won't be the only time in this IPL, gets a huge slice of luck. He is completely flummoxed by a slower bouncer by Sandeep and plays a nothing shot above his head. But the ball loops over and falls between keeper and bowler covering towards the crease. Head manages one four in that over, but that is a good set of six balls from Sandeep. 

TRAVIS HEAD-START!!! A 21-ball half century for the Australian opener, a smashing start once again. Nitish Rana into the attack and Head smashes one over cover for four after reaching his half century. so no there is going to be no slowing down here. 

SRH 115/1 after 8 overs 

A couple of less-than-ideal fielding efforts in the deep by RR as they don't help themselves. Sandeep Sharma would have wanted better from his fielders. Speaking of which, after Head smashes one down the ground (to which Sandeep got a hand to), Jaiswal fires in a throw from the deep. Head and Sandeep are having a chat in the meantime, and the ball smacks Sandeep on his chest. OUCH! 

Theekshana continues for the third over in the powerplay. RR already don't have much in terms of spin artillery and they have used Theekshana's three overs in the first powerplay. Interesting. Anyway, SRH keep going. Poor fielding by Jaiswal first ball for Ishan to help himself to a four, next ball is hit past the fielder for another four. 11 runs in that over... and a no ball off the last ball! Theekshana with another error. Poor mistake again. What would have been a decent over otherwise, ends up being another big one as Head puts the full toss away for four. 

94 runs in the powerplay! 

Oh, welcome back to the IPL Jofra Archer. Travis Head goes hard and goes big. First, a pick up shot over square leg for four. Then a MONSTER 103-M SIX! Clears his front foot and goes BANG over midwicket. Then comes a four past point. Archer goes for Head's head next ball and is frustrated as the umpire calls it wide. The over finishes with two more fours, one over mid off and one over mid on.

Well, the point we were making in the last update. Theekshana bowls an absolute peach to Ishan Kishan, lovely seam position and the ball grips and turns away, but the defensive prod takes the outside edge and goes for four past short third. Next ball, Ishan smashes one down the ground for four. No stopping that. 

Relief for RR! At least for now. That's a rank short ball from Theekshana, he'd have bowled many better palls in his career and not taken a wicket. But Abhishek cuts this to point where Jaiswal takes the catch.
