IPL 2025, RR vs KKR Highlights: Quinton de Kock hits smoking 97, takes Kolkata to 8-wicket win over Rajasthan

170 was going to be a really good score, that's what we were aiming for. I personally rushed a little bit knowing the wicket here. Fell short by 20 runs. That was the plan, to get Quinny out early, but that didn't happen. So, we shifted to containing in the middle overs. He played really well, so kudos to him. Last year, the team wanted me to bat at four, I was happy with that. This year, they want me to bat at three, I should be a professional. We are doing well in small phases. We take the learning, we'll come to Chennai with a fresh mindset.

Jofra Archer is back into the attack. FOUR! de Kock is in a hurry to finish the game. Slightly short on off, pulled away at mid-wicket. 13 needed now. SIX! Exquisite timing.This time over fine leg for a maximum. Into the 90s now de Kock. Seven needed now. Can he get to his hundred? Quite possible. WIDE! Archer overcompensates the line this time. Outside off wide, WIDE AGAIN! Angles down leg this time and tougher for de Kock to get to his 100. SIX! de Kock finishes things off in style. Crunched over long-on for his sixth maximum. He will miss out on his 100 by just three runs but a comprehensive 8-wicket win for the defending champion. Back-to-back losses for Riyan Parag's Rajasthan in front of their home crowd.

Change of ball by the umpires. Maheesh Theekshana gets the hand on the new ball. Leg byes single to start the over. Quicker one, skids in for the left-hander and de Kock takes a single off the pads. Raghuvanshi returns to the non-striker's end with a single off the next one. Straight delivery to de Kock, LBW shout and run-out opportunity for Theekshana at the non-striker's end after Raghuvanshi came down the halfway mark and returned. The ball was missing the stumps, so QDK will stay. 5 WIDES! OH NO. This is the last thing Rajasthan would have wanted. Angling down leg ball from Theekshana from around the wicket, it also beats Jurel. 10 off this over.

Tushar Deshpande comes into the attack for the first time tonight. FOUR! And de Kock welcomes him with a boundary. Wide yorker attempted from Tushar, QDK stretches to his left, gets enough bat on the ball to slice it over backward point for a four. 30 needed off 29 now. Three singles follow in the last five balls. Time for a strategic time-out.

Nitish Rana comes into the attack. Replaces Hasaranga. Not a bad start from Nitish who limited de Kock and Raghuvanshi only to singles for the first five deliveries before Raghuvanshi found a boundary to ruin what looked like a good over from Nitish.

Sandeep Sharma replaces Riyan Parag. Gets away with another cheap over. Just six singles coming off this one. Rajasthan would fancy more of these overs with wickets here.

Wanindu Hasaranga with his third over. FOUR! Raghuvanshi joins the party this time. Length ball, googly onto the middle and pulled away neatly by the right-hander for his first boundary. FOUR! Raghuvanshi takes a single before de Kock cracks one down the ground for his sixth four. 100 up for KKR. Rajasthan are in dire need of quick wickets. Big over this, 13 off it.

Riyan Parag with his last over. SIX! Slow, low onto the middle, de Kock sweetly pulls it over deep mid-wicket for his fourth six. Four singles to end the over with 10 coming off it.

Hasaranga continues.Hasaranga to Rahane, OUT! Hasaranga, who failed to impress with both bat and ball until now, impresses on this occasion. He removes Rahane, who looked to play slog sweep off a slow delivery and finds Tushar Deshpande at short fine. Impact Sub Angrish Raghuvanshi comes in at No. 4 and gets going with a single. SIX! de Kock gets to his fifty with a beautiful six. He goes aerial over deep mid-wicket for his third six. 10 runs from this over. 

KKR 80/2 in 11 overs

Maheesh Theekshana back into the attack. Over the wicket against Rahane. Huge appeal for LBW after the ball pitched in, and hit Rahane's pads. Looks close. Rajasthan goes for DRS but the ball was missing stumps. Rahane lives to play another ball. Pace on the ball bounces over the stumps after Rahane misses his slog. Could've been another close call. SIX! Rahane breaks the shackles. Middles the ball while staying back in the crease, pulls it over deep square. de Kock gets the strike on the last ball. Attempts a pull shot, GIVEN OUT! de Kock takes review and ball trajectory saves him on this occasion. 9 off this over.

Riyan Parag continues. Safe batting from Rahane and de Kock who take six singles off the six deliveries to end a calm over from Parag.

Change in bowling attack. Wanindu Hasaranga, who was sent up the batting order and failed to impress, comes into the attack for Sandeep Sharma. FOUR! de Kock starts the over with a boundary. Poor delivery to start the spell. On the leg and de Kock pulled away behind square at fine leg for his fifth boundary. FOUR! Rahane this time, pure timing. Slighty short from Hasaranga and Rahane plays a backfoot punch over extra cover.  11 off the over. 

KKR 55/1 in 8 overs

Riyan Parag continues. RUN OUT! Wicket against the run of play for Rajasthan here. He played the first ball at covers for a single. He wanted double before being sent back by de Kock and he was well short of the ground before Riyan finds him out of the crease with a throw from Theekshana. Brainfade from KKR batters here? Skipper Ajinkya Rahane comes in at number three and gets off the mark with a single. Only four off this over and Rajasthan gets some opening in this game.

Another change in the bowling attack. Sandeep Sharma comes in place of Maheesh Theekshana from the other end. Ali needs to play his strokes now, otherwise, it might work against de Kock who is doing all the heavy lifting up until now. FOUR! Full onto the pads and QDK is quick to flick this at mid-wicket for a boundary. He moves to 34 with this shot. Two dots to end the over. End of powerplay, KKR managed 40 of it.

Skipper Riyan Parag comes into the attack for Jofra Archer. FOUR! Good footwork from de Kock, who comes to the line of the ball, goes aerial over mid-on, clearing Archer there for a boundary. Still a decent over from Parag, who gives six from his first.

The spin-pace duo combination continues. Maheesh Theekshana with his second over. SIX! Width on offer, slower in the air and De Kock slog-swept nicely to clear the deep backward square-leg fence. A dot and three singles to end the over. 9 from this over.

KKR 29/0 in 4 overs

Jofra Archer continues from one end. De Kock has the strike this time, FOUR! Cracking cut from QDK to find room on off-side and place it behind backward point. SIX! Length delivery, Archer puts all of his strength on this and QDK uses the pace on the ball, stays back and pulls it to dispatch it deep into the stands over cow corner. 13 from this over.

KKR 20/0 in 3 overs

Spin from the other end. Maheesh Theekshana joins Archer. He starts around the wicket with one slip in place. Dot ball to start. FOUR! Short ball from Theekshana, QDK had enough time to pull it wide of backward short-leg. Just a single off the next five balls from Theekshana. 

KKR 7/0 in 2 overs

Moeen Ali takes the strike. Jofra Archer starts over the wicket and starts with a dot ball. Short, pace on the ball which zips away for the left-hander. Good start from Archer who steams in with another quick outswinger. Swing and miss for Moeen. Third ball and Moeen is yet to make any contact with the bat, swing and miss again. Fourth dot on the trot, this time Moeen blocks it. WIDE! Archer stays over the wicket and keeps it short but it goes down leg and an outstretched dive from keeper Jurel saves four runs here. Nothing much for Meeon in this over as Archer completes a lovely over. Just two runs off wides from the first over.

Sunil Narine's like-for-like replacement, Moeen Ali will open with Quinton de Kock for Kolkata Knight Riders in chase of 152. Jofra Archer with the new ball for Rajasthan. 

Spencer Johnson will bowl the final over. He starts with a wide, again. Archer has the strike, SIX! Pace on delivery, low full toss, Archer goes aerial over deep mid-wicket to take Rajasthan near the 150-run mark. Archer takes a couple off the next delivery by pulling it wide of deep mid-wicket. OUT! Two singles in the next two deliveries before Archer was CLEAN BOWLED. Spencer Keeps it straight, Archer goes for a big swing and the stumps are rattled. Tushar Deshpande, the last man, comes in to play the last ball. He manages to guide the length ball at mid-off for a double as Johnson missed a run-out chance. RR manage 13 from this over to get over 150.

Harshit Rana to bowl his last over. Will bowl the penultimate over of the innings. Harshit to Jurel, OUT! Low full toss, outside off, Jurel chops on. Thick inside edge, disturbs the woodwork and accounts for Jurel's wicket. RR seven down now. Jofra Archer walk out at No. 9. SIX! Cracking square cut from Archer to get off the mark with a six. Short and wide outside off, Archer uses the pace and whacks it at deep backward point. OUT! Hetmyer departs now. Eight down RR. Length ball in the middle, Hetmyer stays on front foot and looks to clear the long-off fence but finds Raghuvanshi there. 7 runs and two wickets for Harshit in this over.

The left-arm pacer, Spencer Johnson returns to the attack. He starts with over the wicket but could not keep the line in the middle, bowling two-back-to-back wides outside off. FOUR! DROPPED! Short ball outside ball, a flat swat by Hetmyer at long-on, Venkatesh dives on his left there but fails to complete this catch. The ball also runs away to the fence for a four. Johnson completes a good over, giving two singles sandwiched between three dot deliveries. 8 from this over.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi came into the field as an impact sub for Kolkata in place of Varun. Harshit with his third over. Hetmyer pulls the short ball for a single. FOUR! Clever, clever batting from Jurel. Slower one outside off from Harshit, Jurel shuffles across before playing the scoop over the keeper's head with perfection for a boundary. FOUR! Full ball outside off and Jurel crunches this over extra cover, ending the over with another boundary. 11 from this over. 

RR 123/6 in 17 overs

Varun Chakaravarthy to bowl his last over of the spell. Shimron Hetmyer walks in at No. 8. He gets the strike on the fourth delivery before Jurel plays two dots. He gets off the mark on the last delivery with a single before playing two dots as well. Just two off this over as Varun ends his impressive spell which reads 4-0-17-2. 

RR 112/6 in 16 overs

Vaibhav Arora joins Harshit Rana in the attack from the other end. He will bowl his last over. Vaibhav keep bowling back of the length to give just three runs from his first four deliveries. FOUR! Low full toss from Vaibhav outside off, Shubham swings his bat, slashes it at backward point for a much-needed boundary. OUT! Smart from Vaibhav, keeps it very short, Shubham slaps it hard but could not generate enough power to hit it over the fence. Ander Russell, positioned at deep backward point takes a fairly easy catch. 7 and a wicket from Vaibhav's last over.

Change in the attack, Harshit Rana replaces Varun Chakaravarthy. Harshit to Jurel, FOUR! Thick outside edge, runs past flying Quinton de Kock. Short ball, outside the off, Jurel deliberately edges it there. FOUR! Lucky this time. In middle, banging short, thick under edge which bounces near stumps and beats de Kock to his left this time. This also brings up 100 for Rajasthan in 13.2 overs. Three singles from the last four deliveries. 

RR 103/5 in 14 overs

Good call from Rahane. He makes sure to complete Moeen's overs now itself. The off-spinner keeps it in the middle and off, denying both Shubham Dubey and Jurel any boundaries. Just three singles off the first four ball before Jurel pulls the short ball on backfoot for a FOUR! He also keeps the strike for the next over with a single off the last delivery.  

RR 92/5 in 13 overs

Varun with his third over as well. Rajasthan uses their impact sub, calls in Shubham Dubey for Samson. Varun, meanwhile, bowls a brilliant over to leak just two off it. This has been a fabulous phase for KKR who are tightening the noose on RR at the moment. 

RR 84/5 in 12 overs

Moeen Ali with his third over. Jurel and Nitish take two singles each before Jurel gives back the strike to Nitish on the fourth delivery. Moeen from around the wicket against left-hander Nitish, OUT! Traditional off-spin from Moeen, spins away from middle for the left-hander, slow and gets enough bit off the surface to hit the top of off. Nitish is CLEAN BOWLED as Rajasthan's ship continues to sink further.

Varun Chakaravarthy continues. Rajasthan took a punt by bringing in Hasaranga over Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer. The Sri Lankan has a big reputation as a good pinch hitter, can he deliver to his reputation today? Nitish starts the over with a single. Hasaranga drives the next ball at long-on for a quick double. Two more singles follow. OUT! Varun keeps it quick, the ball skids in and Hasaranga tries to pull it but holes out to Ajinkya Rahane at extra cover. Dhruv Jurel comes in at number six. Just five from this over.

Moeen Ali continues from the other end. Moeen keeps his line in the middle, no risk taken from both the batters. Two singles from the first three deliveries. OUT! Talk about no risk? Jaiswal takes the risk and pays a penalty for it. He steps out against the off-spinner, looks to clear the long-on boundary but mistimes it straight to Harshit Rana at long-on. Two set batters fall in a quick succession for Rajasthan and the spinners have taken full control of this innings. Wanindu Hasaranga joins Nitsh Rana. Just four off this over and a big wicket of Jaiswal. 

RR 71/3 in 9 overs

Mystery spinner Vaibhav Chakaravarthy is here. He replaces Vaibhav Arora in the attack. Two singles to start the over from Riyan Parag and Jaiswal. SIX! Woah, what a shot! Quicker one, in the middle and Riyan goes on backfoot and dispatches this over deep mid-wicket for a big six. A dot to follow. OUT! No, Riyan, what have you done? Varun gets his man instantly. Full-length delivery on off, Riyan was greedy here, looked for another maximum down the ground but the ball went straight up and keeper Quinton de Kock called for it and grabbed it with ease. Skipper departs after scoring 25 in 15. New batter, Nitish Rana is in at number four. Eight runs and a wicket from this over.

It's time for spin. Moeen Ali comes into the attack and bowls a tight over, gives only five singles off his first over.

Interesting, Vaibhav Arora is getting his third over on the trot. He starts with a dot ball. Riyan on strike, SIX! Massive one from Riyan who has no problem dispatching the full ball down the ground. SIX! Jaiswal this time. Low full toss, poor line from Vaibhav and Jaiswal gets into position to play it over long-off for a flat six. Good over for Rajasthan. 13 from it. End of powerplay as well.

Okay, so here comes the first change from Rahane. Harshit Rana comes into the attack for Spencer Johnson. Harshit starts with a quick, 140-plus delivery, Riyan respects it, taps it for a dot delivery. SIX! No respect this time. Harshit keeps it short, and Riyan heaves it over deep square leg with disdain. Pure strength from Riyan whose one hand came off the bat, still the ball went a long way. Harshit to Jasiwal, DROPPED! Chance, big chance gone for Harshit who bowls away from the left hander. Jaiswal looked to play down the ground and Harshit could not carry it. Seven from this over.

No change in the bowling yet, by Rahane. Arora continues from his end. Samson starts the over with a FOUR! Short one from Vaibhav, Samson was ready for this one, he backs away and slaps it over extra cover. WIDE! Vaibhav overcompensates this time, bowls way down leg for a wide. Samson flicks the next ball for a single. Jaiswal plays a dot before returning the strike back to Samson. OUT! BOWLED! Vaibhav keeps at it and nails the yorker this time. Samson dances down the track, looking to play it on on-side but misses the ball which hit the woods for his wicket. He walks back after scoring 11-ball 13. Skipper Riyan Parag walks out and gets off the mark with a single off the last delivery. 8 and a wicket from this over.

Spencer Johnson continues from the other end. Jaiswal on strike, FOUR! Lovely shot from Jaiswal who let the overpitch ball come to him and hit it in the arc to start the over with a boundary at wide long-off. Two singles in the next two deliveries. SIX! Again overpitched delivery on middle and leg, dispatched in the crowd by Jaiswal over cow corner. Good over for RR, gets 12 from this one.

Right-arm pacer, Vaibhav Arora comes from the other end. Good first ball from Vaibhav, who keeps it back of the length, has pace on the ball and Jaiswal takes a single off it. Arora continues from over the wicket for Samson and cramps him for room. Hit-the-deck ball, on the rise for the batter, second dot on the bounce. Samson gets two off the next ball before giving the strike back to Jaiswal on fifth ball. Jaiswal keeps the strike for the next over with a single. Five from this over.

Left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson start over the wicket against Jaiswal. FOUR! Short, rises up for the left-hander and Jaiswal pulls it instantly, only to get an edge which runs behind the field at fine leg. Spencer to Jaiswal, BEATEN! Lovely delivery this from the Australian who shapes it away from Jaiswal who is beaten on this occasion. Third ball, this time it comes in and Jaiswal somehow manages an inside edge for a single. Samson is tested by Johson with his full and then good length ball which beats him before Samson hits the last ball for a FOUR!. Overpitched delivery outside off from Johnson and Samson guides it past point to get off the mark with a boundary. First over done, nine from this one.

Rajasthan Royals' skipper Riyan Parag won the toss against Sunrisers Hyderabad but elected to field first in that game and the visitors ended up scoring the second-highest total of the IPL history in Guwahati. Whereas, Ajinkya Rahane lost the coin flip against for Kolkata Knight Riders against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and was asked to bat first.

It is that time of the year when bowlers have second thoughts about their career choice. If the IPL can give false confidence to batsmen about their abilities, it can also shatter the conviction of bowlers, get them social media abuse and give lifelong trauma. This season the BCCI has allowed bowlers, cricket’s marginalized lot, to use saliva to shine the ball and in case of heavy dew in the second innings, provide them a dry old ball. Thanks but no thanks, that’s too little, too late.

Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane hinted at Rinku Singh being promoted further up the order in upcoming Indian Premier League matches. In the IPL’s opening game this season, KKR chose to play Rinku in his usual position, but that was due to the situation of the match, according to Rahane.

“Yes, I mean, Rinku has been batting really well–for KKR and also for the Indian team, especially in this shorter format. He has been doing really well,” Rahane said.

“The talks about promoting him up the order are happening, but sometimes you have to play according to the situation and decide who is better suited at that moment,” he added.

According to the Accuweather app the temperature in the day in Guwahati is 34 degrees centigrade and it falls to 19 degree centigrade in the night. The weather is expected to be clear with little to no chance of rain on Wednesday. 

Similar to the other grounds in the IPL season the pitch at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium too is conducive for batting. With an average innings score of around about 200. However, with the moisture early on in the wicket the pitch would help the seamers with the new ball but once the batters manage to see that off in either innings runs are there to be had.

Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Ajinkya Rahane said he had no complaints on how the Eden Gardens pitch behaved in the opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) against Royal Challengers Bengaluru but said that he hoped that in the next matches, the pitch offers some help for the home spinners.

“We would love to see the pitch helping the spin bowlers but again, this wicket was under cover for the last one and a half days. Hazlewood used the conditions really well and bowled pretty well. Again, we would love to see some spin on this wicket but again, no complaints. Both the spinners we have, the quality they have, they can bowl in any kind of wicket and I am sure they are confident as well. But again, the wicket was different, played different because it was under covers and it was raining yesterday,” Rahane said at the post-match press conference.
