While chasing, MI never looked in the hunt as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals to be restricted to 152 for nine. Left-arm Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad (3/37) was the pick of the bowlers for GT. Scroll for Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians (GT vs MI) highlights:
Gujarat Titans
207/6 (20.0)Mumbai Indians
152/9 (20.0)Gujarat Titans beat Mumbai Indians by 55 runs
Gujarat Titans have completely outplayed the Mumbai Indians here. It is a sorry-looking scorecard from the visitors. With the ball, they were battered in the death overs after starting well with the bat their chase never started. The leg-spinner duo of Gujarat Titans of Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed broke the spine of Mumbai in the run-chase. After a loss Gujarat are looking well on track againwith back to wick wins. Mumbai on the other hand will be extremely disappointed with their performances. After winning three in a row now they have lost two in a row and seems like they have lost the momentum once again. This is also a hugh shot in their chest as their net run rate to will be massively effected.
Two wickets fell in the Mohit Sharma over. Arjun Tendulkar has walked into the middle. This has been an extremely disappointing performance from Mumbai Indians they have been outplayed in all departments. After winning three in a row now they will be losing two in a row. Once a power house of IPL Mumbai Indians seem to have their mojo. After 18.2 overs Mumbai Indians overs 140/8
Mohammed Shami's death bowling has come leaps and bounces in the last 6-7 months. Once against whilst the other bowlers were taking a bit of tapping Shami struck to his lines and lengths. Mumbai Indians seem to look to get that total to as close as possible and limit the damage. After 17 overs Mumbai Indians overs 135/6
In the last 10 minutes or so Mumbai Indians have started to hit a few sixes all of a sudden ruining the figures of the bowlers. The floury of boundaries seems to be too little too late now. However, if they can a bat bit longer it might help the run-rate issues. After 15.4 overs Mumbai Indians overs 126/6
Rohit Sharma's decision to ball first seems like backfired spectacularly here. The bowling group after starting well just could not get their act together on the contrary the Titans are just showing how to keep the pressure on when the side has lost wickets. After 14.2 overs Mumbai Indians overs 103/6
Noor Ahmed picks up Suryakumar Yadav. With the wicket end the hopes of Mumbai Indians. This looks like it will be a massive dent in their Net Run Rate for them. Gujarat Titans will be exceedingly happy as they are back on track again and are looking defending champions again. After 13 overs Mumbai Indians overs 69/5
Surya is the last standing hope between Mumbai Indians losing very badly and staying alive in this tournament if it comes to Net Run Rate for the fourth spot. With this bowling attack, Mumbai Indians batters have to play out of their skins to win games of cricket which may not be possible every time. After 11.5 overs Mumbai Indians overs 69/5
Shivani Naik: Mohammed Shami cramped Ishan Kishan, and Rashid Khan turned the knife in. Facing 13 deliveries from the India pacer, Kishan had 7 dot balls as he was repeatedly beaten outside off. A swipe over midwicket might've felt like breaking the shackles, but though he ran a couple of singles more, the pressure was building. So when Rashid Khan came along, bowled it short on off, Kishan went for a grossly mistimed pull, and the top edge was collected by Josh Little. It ended his wretched stay for 13 off 21 deliveries.
Green and David have departed in a single over. That seems like the game is done and dusted for the Mumbai Indians. This has been a disappointing batting display. This is a by-product of having a poor bowling attack as the batting unit is always under pressure. They need to manage the Net run rate from here on. After 11 overs Mumbai Indians overs 59/5
What a spell this is turning out to be from Rashid Khan. The run-rate at the halfway point has gone into the 15s. It seems to be a mere impossible task for the Mumbai Indians at the moment. However, we have seen stranger things happen on this ground before. After 10.1 overs Mumbai Indians overs 54/3
Mumbai Indians need a partnership here for a brief period of time as they lost one too many wickets for their liking. Hardik Pandya on the other hand will be looking to bowl a few more quiet overs and keep that run-rate going up. Rashid Khan has been fantastic so far. After 9.1 overs Mumbai indians overs 54/3
Both Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma depart in quick succession for Mumbai Indians. The visitors are just losing wickets at regular intervals. The run rate seems to spike up quickly. This is looking more and more difficult for Mumbai Indians at the moment. After 8 overs Mumbai indians overs 45/3
Hardik has now thrown the ball to the last match's hero alongside Rohit Sharma. However, Green tried to attack him and successfully scored a six off him. This is where the Titans started to accelerate and posted that mammoth total. Ishan Kishan needs to get a move on here. After 7 overs Mumbai indians overs 43/1
Rashid Khan came into bowl the final over of the Powerplay and did an excellent job. This has been a poor powerplay for the Mumbai Indians chasing a mamoth total. If they lose this game they might be reassesing this first six overs and how they have gone. After 6 Mumbai indians overs 29/1
Good captaincy by Hardik Pandya recognizing that Mohammad Shami is bowling well he has given him the third over here. This has been high-quality fast bowling from Gujarat Titans so far. They are running in and bowling proper Test match lengths and Mumbai Indians batters at the moment are not having any answers. After 5 Mumbai indians overs 26/1
Cameron Green looked to be a bit attacking in the over from Hardik Pandya. He played an excellent shot to get a six in the over. The Mumbai Indians need more of these overs. Ishan Kishan batting at the other end is struggling to get bat on the ball. He needs to start going as the run-rate is already going up quickly. After 4.2 Mumbai indians overs 18/1
The Titans have started brilliantly with the new ball here. They have stuck to their lines and length and have reaped their rewards. This run rate seems to be a bit farfetched for Mumbai Indians at this point in time. They might be looking to preserve wickets early on and they take on the attack later. After 3.1 Mumbai indians overs 6/1
Chasing a massive total Rohit Sharma has departed. It is a huge wicket for Gujarat Titans. Mumbai Indians have started on the backfoot chasing a massive total. Cameron Green walks into the middle. After 2 Mumbai indians overs 4/1
I went in when a few wickets fell, we had the timeout. Ashu pa came in and told me to carry the game for three overs, if it's in your zone hit it, if not knock it around for singles, we can make up the runs in the end because we have the firepower to do that. That's what me and Miller spoke about and it paid off. There was an effort to actually to get more runs in the middle overs. In our meeting, Hardik made it very clear that if we go after their main bowlers, which was Piyush Chawla, then we can get more runs on the board and then the rest of the bowlers will be under pressure. That's what we tried to do and it worked. I think tonight's gonna go our way, hopefully our bowlers do the job. First six overs is very important because the new ball is going to do something. I'm sure our bowlers will do it.
After starting slowly in the first 10. The Titans have exploded in the second 10 courtesy of blistering cameos from David Miller and Abhinav Manohar. At the halfway stage they looked like a side that well be ending their innings at around 160 runs however, the duo changed the momentum completely helped by some ordinary bowling from the Mumbai Indians. The visitors do have one of the strongest batting line-ups in the tournament however chasing these amount of big totals on regular basis is an up-hill task to any batting line-up.
Abhinav Manohar departs after a blistering 42. Despite the wicket, Manohar did the damage. Later in the over Miller sensing slower balls stayed back in the crease and was setting himself for it. He smashed two massive sixes of the final two balls of the over. This has been serious assault from the Titans batters. After 19 over Gujarat Titans 191/5
Shivani Naik: Emboldened by the wickets of Hardik Pandya and Vijay Shankar, wherein he tossed it up and bowled full into the slot, Piyush Chawla bowled similar one to Abhinav Manohar. Flighted outside off, Chawla would try baiting Manohar, but the batter would bludgeon it back over the bowler for a 95m maximum. Three balls earlier, Manohar had driven him over cover after thwacking him to the cover fence off the first ball. Chawla who was 2/17 after his third over, suddenly had his figures mashed up to 2/34 to complete a mixed bag spell. After 18 over Gujarat Titans 172/4
Both Beherendorff and Meredith have gone to the slower ball as the tactic to bowl in these last few overs. It has been going decently so far. Both Miller and Manohar seem to have a bit of trouble facing these slower ones. However, if they get predictable the batters might just sit back and smash them. After 17 over Gujarat Titans 150/4
Gujarat Titans now are in a position to post a more than decent total on this surface. If David Miller and Manahor can stay till the end of the 20th over given the death bowling woes of Mumbai Indians they may be getting to at least 180 runs from here on. After 16 over Gujarat Titans 137/4
Both Abhinav Manahor and David Miller seem to change their approach here. They have started to take on the spinners. First Karthikeya and Piyush Chawla both seem to go the distance. The surface also seem to have eased out a bit in the last 15 minutes or so indicating there may be dew on offer. After 15 over Gujarat Titans 130/4
David Miller has started well. He started the innings with intent and purpose. He is going after the spinners in these middle-overs. This is probably the first time in the season Miller has come into bat this early in the innings. He would be looking to make it count with a handy contribution. After 14 over Gujarat Titans 113/4
Piyush Chawla picks up Vijay Shankar. The spinners are doing it again for the Mumbai Indians here. They have already picked up three wickets in these middle overs. Gujarat seems to now have lost their way completely in the middle overs here. David Miller and Abhinav Manohar needs to rebuild the innings. After 13 over Gujarat Titans 103/3
Kumar Karthikeya picks up Shubman Gill. It is a brilliant over from the left-arm spinner. A brave decision from Rohit to keep him going for the third over after getting smashed for 21 runs in the first two overs. Titans are in a bit of pickle here they need to rebuild the innings from here on. After 12 over Gujarat Titans 99/3
Shivani Naik: Shubman Gill got stuck into seamer Cameron Green and collected 15 off his first over. Gill had welcomed Riley Meredith with a lofted shot over deep point, but he truly went after Green in the next over. Green bowled it short and was dispatched over midwicket first, next one was swerving into leg, but Gill made room for himself and slashed it away to the covers. The next one went maximum, slammed over long-on after it was pitched on middle. Piyush Chawla's first delivery of the over a few minutes later saw Gill take two steps down and whack it over extra cover. It was the Green over though that proved costly. Gill would reach 49 slamming Kumar Karthikeya over deep midwicket. After 10.5 over Gujarat Titans 90/2
A brilliant half-century by Shubman Gill. Splendid innings from the opener. He took off against Green in the last over of the Powerplay and from there on he just kept going. This is the third half-century of the season for Gill. Rohit Sharma should be careful here as a partnership seems to brewing for the Titans. After 10.1 over Gujarat Titans 85/2
On a wicket which looks to be a touch on the slower side, Gill is finding the middle of the bat on a consistent basis. He looked comfortable against the spin of Piyush Chawla. Gill is the key here for Gujarat Titans to post a substantial total on the board. After 9.1 over Gujarat Titans 68/2
Left-arm spinner Karthikeya is brought into the attack. This seems like a good tactical change by Rohit Sharma given the number of right-handed batters Gujarat Titans have. The wicket seems to be turning and gripping we might be in for another low-scoring affair today. After 8 over Gujarat Titans 60/2
Piyush Chawla picks up Hardik Pandya. Excellent star from Chawla here. He picked up the wicket of the Gujarat skipper of the first ball of the over when Pandya tried to hit him out of the ground and was caught on the boundary and then just kept bowling tight lines and lengths for the rest of the over. Chawla's excellent form in this year's IPL continues. After 7 over Gujarat Titans 55/2
Cameroon Green has been given the difficult task of bowling the final of the Powerplay. Gill who has started a bit on the slower side has smashed the Aussie all-rounder all over the park. Much needed big over for Titans as they seemed to look like they were losing a bit of momentum in setting up a score. After 6 over Gujarat Titans 50/1
Shivani Naik: Wriddhiman Saha had attempted a pull on the fifth ball of Arjun Tendulkar's first over - a shortish delivery on the offstump, and not connected. Playing his 151st game, Saha scratched about the next delivery to point, but the over fetched just 4 runs. It was the pull again that Saha would try as Tendulkar bowled the first one of his second over, drifting down leg slightly short. But once again he couldn't quite get the pull going, and Ishan Kishan would go for an appeal immediately, given Out by the umpire. Saha would go for a review after a long chat with Shubman Gill, but Ultraedge judged it whiffing the glove. Titans had lost an early wicket for the fourth time, as Tendulkar got going. After 5 over Gujarat Titans 33/1
Meredith is given the ball by Rohit Sharma and he had a mixed bag of an over. He started a bit wavered however, the lines and lengths got better as the over went on. Both Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill are struggling to time the ball. The surface seems to be a touch on the slower side. After 5 over Gujarat Titans 33/1
The Titans have started slowly here. Rather then wicket offering a bit they seem to bat a bit slowly. Both Hardik Pandya and Gill will be looking to up the ante in the final two overs of the Powerplay. Arjun Tendulkar in the over, fielding at the fine leg got injured when the ball hit him and was sent to medical treatment. After 4 over Gujarat Titans 23/1
Arjun Tendulkar picks up Wriddhiman Saha. The Gujarat opener trying to pull the bowl drifting down the legside gets a feather of a knick and Ishan Kishan takes an easy catch. Saha challenges the decision however, the ultra edge showed a spike. Hardik Pandya walks into the middle of the Titans. After 3 over Gujarat Titans 17/1
Jason Behrendorff pitched the ball-up looking for a bit of swing. However, there seems to be not a lot on the surface. Mumbai Indians picking wickets in the powerplay is very essential as their death bowling has gone the distance this season so far. So they would be looking to bowl aggressive lines and lengths now in the Powerplay. After 2 over Gujarat Titans 12/0
After getting battered by the likes of Sam Curran and Harpreet in the last game Arjun has started well here. He bowled good lines and lengths in the first over. He pitched the ball up looking for a bit of swing. However, there seems to be nothing on offer from the surface. The Gujarat Titans openers have started circumspectively. After 1 over Gujarat Titans 4/0
The players come out to the middle and the umpires come out to the middle. The atmosphere is buzzing in the ground. It is going to be a cracker of a contest. It has been a good six hitting ground so far both teams have their set of players who can hit the ball a long way and will be looking to make menace today. Stay with us to catch all the fireworks.

It (pitch) looks good, looks watery. It has been a belter though. The way we fought back, the last game we won but LSG dominated for 36 overs. Credit to the boys the way we came back. We showed what is never give up. Luck was on our side. We are playing the same team. Josh Little comes back for someone, that's it.
We are gonna bowl first. We saw the pitch, it was hard. They put a lot of water there. Want to make best use of the conditions. Start well early on and see where the game is heading. Games like that happen, we made some errors and we accepted that. It's important how you come back from that situation, that's critical. We had a good chat and hopefully we can turn things around. We've got 2 changes - Hrithik Shokeen misses out from the last game. Kumar Kartikeya is going to play. Jofra is not well. Riley is back.
Riley Meredith and Kumar Karthikeya come in for Jofra Archer and Hrithik Shokeen respectively.
For Gujarat Titans Joshua Little comes in.
We had the belief in the bowling unit that we can defend the total (against LSG). The mindset was to take it as close as possible. We focused on our basics and we won the game. My economy is slightly on the higher side compared to my last 5-6 seasons, I have bowled a few loose deliveries and the batsmen are punishing them. I am trying to reduce the number loose balls, trying to bowl in the right channel. Amazing feeling (playing in Ahmedabad), there were more 100,000 people for the first game. Even for the day match, there were around 80,000 people. This is what the home is all about - the love and support we get, I am so lucky to play for Gujarat. It's a beautiful ground. You get a lot of energy when you get so much support.
Definitely pretty special (playing at this venue), it's only about 40% full at the moment but it's already loud out here. It's going to be exciting when it gets fuller. (Playing for MI) It's a really good side to come into, lot of experience, I was here last year, it's a really good group and it's really exciting this year. We're doing a little bit better than we did at the start last year. Hopefully we can keep moving. (Favourite pitch) Delhi was pretty favourable for us bowlers, it was a bit inconsistent, that was pretty nice. It's been pretty hard for us (at Wankhede) fast bowlers this year, but that's what we're used to and that's what we're playing for.
It is highly unlikely that Arjun Tendulkar will get a match after his dismal outing against Punjab Kings. The left-arm pacer got the wicket Prabhsimran Singh with an inch-perfect yorker but he conceded 31 runs in the 16th over and with that over he bowled the second most expensive over by a Mumbai Indians bowler in the IPL. Mumbai might rope in all-rounder Ramandeep Singh in the playing XI.
The highest number of sixes on an average has been hit at this venue along with Eden Gardens. This isn't the smallest of venues either. Square boundaries - 63 metres and 68 metres, straight down the ground it's 74 metres. It's unusually humid here. On the wicket, it's moist, not tacky in any way but certainly got some moisture in it. Don't be surprised if the fastmen do come into play in the powerplay. Even though it's red soil, I think it'll bounce traditionally but it'll just grip a little bit because of the extra moisture in it. The batters through the middle will be finding it very difficult this evening. Dew hasn't had a massive effect so far. It's overcast, chances are it (dew) might not have tonight either. Six out of six games - chasing teams have won.
The pitch at Ahmedabad is one for batters with scores of 178, 204 and 177. All have been won by the chasing team.
Momentum is big in this competition. Coming back from a really close win in the last game, gives us a boosting for the games to come. If we look at the next 10 days, we got a few games back-to-back and it is a good time to step up.
There are a lot of teams who are already on eight points but most of the teams have played seven games and we have played six. So, one more game here and if we win we will be in the same hunt. We are not very far behind. But yes, we would like to have a couple of more wins in the next couple of games
Titans now have eight points, two clear of MI from six matches each. Gujarat and Mumbai have faced each other in 1 match in the IPL, where Mumbai emerged victorious by 5 wickets
GT might need to give their top overseas batter David Miller more time in the middle by promoting him up the order. Miller is high on confidence and backed his team to succeed. "If you look at next 10 days, there will be quite a few games back-to-back and so it's a good time to step it up and be ready for every challenge." That they are still coming out on top despite some glitches in the middle has been a big positive for GT, Miller said. "Even when we have had errors in certain areas and played not-so-good cricket, we have been still coming out on top and I think we are finding ways to win which is very important. "The plan is to get into a winning momentum but I think we are playing great cricket. "Just finding ways to win and wanting to continually win big occasions and if we get a few wins in next 10 days, we will go well into back end of IPL."
GT batters have chased down totals but they have been sometimes guilty of not being able to push the score in middle overs. While Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill have scored runs at the top and Hardik top-scored in their last match, GT were about 10-15 runs short against LSG, mainly due to their slow batting in middle overs, something the team will need to address.
Led by Rashid Khan, Gujarat's spin department looks potent with fellow Afghan wrist spinner Noor Ahmad and Jayant Thakur delivering under pressure against LSG. If Jayant conceded just seven in his last two overs, Noor took two wickets for just five runs in his final two overs to set up the win for GT the other day.
While Mohit has been a revelation, veteran Mohammed Shami too has been among the wickets. However, skipper Hardik Pandya hasn't really fired with the ball, having picked up only one wicket so far.
