Before India play their first Test against West Indies on Thursday, captain Virat Kohli addressed the media in Antigua. During the presser, he paid his condolences to hockey legend Mohammed Shahid who passed away Wednesday morning.
“Just wanted to pay our condolences as the Indian cricket team to Mr Mohammed Shahid’s family. He’s an icon in hockey and brought so much glory to the nation. So it’s a very sad moment. We were informed about it this morning. Our sincere support and condolences to his family. May god bless his soul,” Kohli said.
Shahid was part of the India team which won last of the seven gold medals in hockey in Olympics. The team won the gold medal in the 1980 Moscow Olympics.
