India vs Australia Live Cricket Score, 1st ODI: AUS defeat IND by seven wickets (DLS Method) to take 1-0 lead

Australia's Mitch Marsh, who is the Player of the Match, thanks the fans for sticking around despite the four rain interruptions.

While talking about the win, Marsh says: "It was [a strange game]. Weather played a part. Good to get a win. Always nice to win at home. I love playing here."

Talking about the chase, Marsh adds: "It was obviously swinging around a little bit, so that was a challenge to get through, but proud of the way our young guys took the game on."

Marsh praises newcomer Josh Philippe, saying: "He came in and made it easy! The young guys coming in, you want them to come in and enjoy. I said to the group that you don't get to play ODIs in front of big crowds often, so go out and enjoy."

Shubman Gill, speaking at the presentation ceremony after India's loss in the first ODI, says: "Never easy when you lose three wickets in the powerplay, you are always trying to play a catch-up game. There were a lot of learnings and positives as well. Defending 130 in 26 overs, we took the game pretty deep so we're satisfied with that. We're very fortunate that wherever we play, fans turn up in huge numbers."

Australia defeat India by seven wickets (DLS Method) with Mitchell Marsh staying unbeaten on 46 runs off 52 balls.

Matt Renshaw gets a second life after Nitish Kumar Reddy gets an edge off the second ball. But the ball flew, and despite KL Rahul getting a glove to the ball with a full-fledged dive to his left, the ball is not caught. It was a tough one. But that should have be taken! Renshaw dropped on 12 by KL Rahul.

Arshdeep Singh handed the ball again as Australia are within touching distance of the target. And while Renshaw was denied a six in the previous over, he hits the first ball of Arshdeep's comeback over the other end of the pitch --- over the keeper's head for a maximum!

After 19 overs, Australia are 117/3

Mohammed Siraj saves a sureshot six with a leap into the air over the rope at long off and a two-handed pullback of the ball. Rohit Sharma, who was the nearest fielder to the ball after it was pulled back, did not rush to the ball, so Siraj ends up picking up the ball and throwing it to the keeper.

Matt Renshaw, who hit the shot, must have thought that was a six, so they did not bother running. Just one run off it, which means Siraj saved five runs with the leap.

After 18 overs, Australia are 110/3

Josh Philippe's night comes to an end as he tries to hoist a ball from Washington Sundar over the ropes. But all he can manage is to hit the ball into the hands of Arshdeep Singh, who dives ahead and claims the ball.

This Mitch Marsh and Josh Philippe partnership is threatening to take away the match from India. After a slow start, Philippe is starting to find his range! He picks up the length from Nitish Reddy on his fifth ball and hits the ball over long on for a maximum.

11 runs off the first over of the day from Nitish Kumar Reddy.

After 15 overs, Australia are 94/2

Philippe starting to punish Rana. Two fours on the first two balls of the 13th over right after drinks break. Rana offers the batter a little width on the off side and Philippe slaps the ball away.

After 13 overs, Australia are 75/2 |Hosts need 56 off 78 balls to win

Harshit Rana, brought in from the other end, is starting to get some movement and create trouble. At least twice, the batters chop the ball and it heads close to the stumps. Then, Philippe throws his bat at the ball, and it takes the edge to fly over the keeper's head for a maximum. Rana just needs a little bit of luck here.

After 11 overs, Australia are 62/2

Another wicket, and it's the new bowler Axar Patel who gets the breakthrough on just his fifth ball today! Matthew Short tried to drive the ball away through the covers after facing a few darting balls that buzzed of trouble.

Finally, Short's nature gets the better of him and he sends the ball straight into the hands of Rohit Sharma at short third.

So Mitch Marsh decides he has shown enough respect to Arshdeep Singh in the previous over and frees his arms to slap the ball over the off side for a maximum. Arshdeep manages to bowl five dot balls around that six.

And captain Shubman Gill responds with a bowling change, bringing in Harshit Rana to try and get one more wicket.

But Rana ends up conceding nine in his first over, including giving away a six that was very similar to the one Marsh hit off Arshdeep.

A good comeback from Siraj, who was hit for two boundaries in his first over. In his second over, he's bowled a few balls that have whizzed past Mitch Marsh's bat, while he has tried to charge the Indian bowler.

Mitch Owen from the other end. OUT! Rahul had to go for this and paid the price for it. Overpitched from Owen, Rahul looked to clear the fence, but ended up offering a rather easy catch to Matt Renshaw at long on. OUT! Harshit Rana came, Harshit Rana goes. Matthew Kuhnemann continues. Clever bowling from the offie as he gets away by giving just five runs from his second over. Nathan Ellis has been brought back into the attack. Boundaries have dried up, once again. Rahul has to take calculated risks if India are eyeing anything above 130. Just two singles off the first three deliveries before Ellis bowls a wide. He uses the slower ball on leg and Rahul could only manage a single off the fourth delivery. FOUR! It was coming from Sundar. Banged in short from Ellis, Sundar anticipated it right, moved across and played his favourite hook at fine leg.

Spin from both ends, Matthew Short joins the attack. Washington Sundar is in at No. 7 and gets off the mark with a single. SIX! Clear intent from Rahul, shimmies down the track, smacks it right over the bowler's head for full six runs. Crucial runs here from Rahul. SIX! Back-to-back maximums for Rahul. Slower one, dances down the track once again and deposits over to the stand. Rahul gets a single before Sundar ends the over with a quick couple which takes India past 100. 17 off the over.

Left-arm off-spinner Matthew Kuhnemann for the first time today. Axar starts the over with a dot before giving the strike back to Rahul who gets a couple followed by a single. OUT! Axar looked to continue with his attacking cricket to up the ante, holed out to Matt Renshaw at long-on as India lost their fifth.

Nathan Ellis with his fourth over. FOUR! Axar with his third boundary in a span of six deliveries. Picks the slower one, pulls it with authority over mid-on. A single results in Rahul getting the strike. FOUR! First Axar and now it's Rahul who makes the move. Flat batted slog clears the diving mid-off fielder for his first boundary. FOUR! And another. Sweatly pulled away at deep mid-wicket for the third boundary of this over. 15, the best over for India thus far in this innings.

Out walk KL Rahul, Axar Patel, alongside the Australian team. Nathan Ellis bowls two deliveries to complete his over. Mitch Owen to bowl the 17th over of the innings and his second. Axar started the over with a single before Rahul, too, gets a single in the following delivery. FOUR! Finally, a boundary for India. Short ball, into the body and Axar looked to pull across and got the top edge which ran above the keeper for a boundary. FOUR MORE! Add another. Axar is showing his intention here. Plays an aerial shot over mid-on for his second boundary on the bounce. 11 off Owen's over.

Play will resume at 2 PM IST with each side getting 26 overs to play.

The big cover over the square is coming off as the rains have eased. The umbrellas are closed, can expect the resumption in sometime.

Mitch Starc to follow. Fifty up for India in the 16th over. Just two off Starc's sixth over. Nathan Ellis with his third over from the other end. And here we go again, the rain gods are not in any mood to have smooth proceedings. 'It does look ominous," says Ravi Shastri on air.

Good news, it was just a passing shower as the covers are coming off. The skies are still quite dark but we will get some live action pretty soon by the looks of it. Okay, here comes the confirmation; 32 over game now.

This truly has been a frustrating passage of play, especially for the Indian batters. The umpires are uprooting the stumps, covers are being placed.

Axar gets a single off Owen off the second delivery. Iyer rotates the strike immediately before Axar plays out the rest of the over to take two off the last delivery. Hazlewood continues. OUT! Another batter strangled down leg. Short delivery, closer to the body and Iyer edged while looking to tuck behind. This has been an amazing display of bowling from the Australians. Fourth wicket down for India. KL Rahul in at No. 6 to join Axar at the middle.

After more than two hours of delay, we are back with some live action. Josh Hazlewood to complete his sixth over. FOUR! Full, wide and slashed away hard by Iyer to get a boundary at backward square. Good start by Iyer after rain interruption. Mitchell Owen for the first time in action as he joins Hazlewood from the other end.

IND 41/3 in 12 overs

Finally, some good signs. The rains have finally stopped. The match will resume at 12:20 PM IST with the innings being reduced to 35 overs each.

The rains have picked up again in Perth and the delay will frustratingly continue. We are set to lose a chunk of overs from this contest now.

Not very promising signs here, the umpires are walking back in the middle with open umbrellas this time. The drizzle appeared to have returned as the pitch is still covered. More wait!

For Virat Kohli, this Australia trip will bring back memories of his first tour of Australia in 2011/12, where the challenging tour saw him evolve as a batter and get over the initial failures to score his maiden Test ton. At that time, Kohli was still a young batter trying to secure his place in the Test team while being an established white ball cricketer for India. He had already won an ODI World Cup before his first Australia tour.

We have an update! Rain has stopped, the covers are coming off, the umbrellas are closed and the weather is also clearing up. We should be having a restart anytime now.

The covers are still on. The drizzle appeared to have gotten slightly heavier. The umbrellas are out among the crowd, as we might need to wait a little longer for live action resumption.

It has started to drizzle once again. The covers are coming on and we get another interruption.

Mitch Starc returns in the attack, replaces Nathan Ellis. Axar Patel, who got off the mark off the last delivery of the previous over, starts confidently against Starc, drives the full ball on off through the covers to get a double. Oops, short run from Axar here, resulted in only a single. Iyer on strike, and clips it past the backward point for a couple this time. He returns the strike to Axar. Axar uses the vacant region at the backward point, cutting through which results in three runs. 8 from this over, positive intent from both batters.

End of the first power play after Hazlewood bowls a 2-run over. Just 27 from the first 10 overs as Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel look to rebuild from scratch.

Action resumes in Perth after the covers have come off. We have lost one over as it is going to be a 49-over game. Ellis completes the final delivery of his first over, ends up bowling a wicket maiden.

First change in the bowling attack, Nathan Ellis replaces Mitch Starc. OUT! Wicket off his first delivery! Dream start for Ellis, who gets Indian skipper Shubman Gill. Hunts him down with a length ball, angling down leg and includes an edge. Gill could not believe he had been stranded down the leg. This is turning out to be a nightmare start for the Men in Blue.

Vice-captain Shreyas Iyer joins skipper Shubman Gill. India needs a quick restart here before things start falling from its hands. Starc continues to test batters; he surprises Iyer with an odd bouncer. Iyer gets off the mark with a couple off the delivery of Starc's over. Just a single from Hazlewood's following over.

Starc continues. Virat on strike, OUT! Oh god, the outside off-stump nightmare continues to haunt Kohli as he has been dismissed for a duck! This is not the start he would have expected. Troubling signs for India. Starc keeps it full away from off-stump, Kohli leans forward, searching for it, edges it at backward poin,t where a diving Cooper Connolly made no mistakes.

IND 21/2 in 6.1 overs

Virat Kohli, the new batter, comes in at No. 3 after the early dismissal of Rohit Sharma. He gets a leg byes single off the first delivery he faces but a slow, testing passage of play follow for India. Kohli with a cautious start, sees off Starc's over before Gill played four dots as Australia keep the pressure on India. Gill, meanwhile, gets a much-needed boundary to snap the dot ball streak. Kohli yet to open his account.

Rohit keeps the strike after getting a single off the last ball of Starc's second over. Hazlewood now. He starts with a short ball, gets good bounce as Rohit finds it safe to leave. Big swing and miss! Good length this time, Rohit looks to hit across but beats the outside edge. Beaten now! Hazlewood is troubling Rohit now. Full, outside off stumps and Rohit is beaten once again. OUT! Here it is! It was coming, a brilliant set-up from Hazlewood, who has drawn the first blood for Australia. Bowls short, angles in which straighten up after pitching, gets excellent bounce and Rohit edges it straight to Matt Renshaw.

Rohit against Starc. The lanky Australian starts the over with a couple of inswingers, which result in two dots. Rohit carves the third ball, overpitched outside off stumps to get a couple. FOUR! Classic Rohit this time! Lovely straight drive through the legs of Gill. This will give much-needed confidence to the former India captain. He ends the over with a single.

It is Josh Hazlewood who joins Mitch Starc from the other end. Starts with short ball away from Gill and Indian skipper leaves it for a calm start. FOUR! Gill gets enough bat on this one, quite full from Hazlewood as he looked to shape it away just like the previous two deliveries, fraction full and Gill pounces on it this time. Plays with a straight bat down the ground for the first boundary at long-on. Two dots to end the over as four came from the second one.

"Thoda andar aaya hai, Rohit bhai (It came inside a little)," captain Shubman Gill tells Rohit Sharma after getting off the mark on the third ball. The Indian opening pair of Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma still feeling their way after being asked to bat first by Australia. Three balls later, Starc bowls a ball that's at 142kmph and is a little fuller. It's whooshed past the bat of Rohit Sharma, who tried to smash it and missed. A broad smile from Starc.

Good length ball, Starc keeps it in the middle and Rohit looks to block it before getting a quick run. Skipper Gill, too, opens the account with a single after leaving the first delivery. Starc is looking to keep the ball in the good-length area. OUCH! Bowls a tad bit fuller, gets the ball to shape in, Rohit goes for a big heave but misses it completely. Just two off the first over.

Star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli was in conversation with former Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist and former Indian coach Ravi Shastri ahead of the match, where he spoke about his fitness, time away from cricket and more.

Well, to be honest, I mean, the amount of cricket I've played over the last 15-20 years, I've actually not rested at all, if that makes sense. I've probably played the most number of games in the last 15 years in international cricket, combining the IPL together as well. So, for me, it was a very refreshing time off.

I'm feeling as fit, if not fitter than I've ever been before. You can just feel the freshness when you know you can play the game and mentally you know what to do out there. It's just the physical preparation that really needs to be taken care of. At this stage, I realized that if my body is fit, if my reflexes are there, then the game awareness is already there. My body has to match up with it. And that's something that I try to keep up with. I live my life like that, no issues at all. I'm feeling fresh.

We have an update coming in. Rohit Sharma hands Nitish Kumar Reddy his ODI cap as the fast bowling all-rounder is all set to make his One-Day debut at the same venue where he made his Test debut.

Australia have never won an ODI at the Perth Stadium, although it has to be noted that only three matches of this format have been played in the past. The most recent of those was in November last year between Australia and Pakistan. Australia were blown away in that match for just 140 runs with Pakistan’s fast bowlers running riot and the visitors won match by eight wickets. Before that, Australia were bundled out for 152, this time South Africa’s pacers led by Dale Steyn picking them apart. The first ODI to be played here was a closer affair, which England won by 12 runs. This is the first game to be played on this ground this season overall and generally, lower scores are expected in matches played here.

An important thing to consider is that there is a very strong chance of rains playing a role. It could either interrupt in the early stages of the match or make an appearance before the game starts. According to Accuweather, rain is expected on Sunday morning with a 70 per cent chances of precipitation ahead of the 11:30 AM (Australian time) start. The rain chances further increase by 35 per cent as the game progresses, thus possibly forcing multiple interruptions. A delayed toss and start to the game could be possible.

When Rohit Sharma walks out in Perth on Sunday, it will mark his 500th international match and will become only the fifth Indian to reach the milestone.

Rohit Sharma has watched several versions of Australia, just as Australia has beheld different iterations of Rohit Sharma. When he first landed Down Under in 2008, Ricky Ponting was the captain, the troika of Bill Lawry, Tony Greig and Richie Benaud were still commentating.
