India A and Australia A will lock horns in the first unofficial Test of the two-match series at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay from Thursday.

The four-day match will be followed by another First-Class match between the sides in Melbourne before the senior teams limber up for the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy series. The India A side, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, will also feature in an intra-squad match simulation game with the senior India team in Perth behind closed doors starting November 15.

The spotlight will be on captain Gaikwad, who missed out on a look into the Test squad as a back-up opener for the BGT series. However, his deputy Abhimanyu Easwaran will be in focus after having made the squad and is slated to feature in his 100th First Class match against Australia A.
