Yasir Shah spun Pakistan back in control with a fine spell of bowling in the last two session of the day’s play. England were off to a decent start and were in commanding position with the Alastair Cook-Joe Root stand.

Cook (81) fought from the other end but Mohammad Amir, returning to Test cricket after six years, finally got his man when the left-hander inside-edged a delivery back on to his stumps. Earlier, Cook got two reprieves off Amir.

There was some resistance shown by the English lower-order but it was Shah again who broke the steady Jonny Bairstow-Moeen Ali stand by scalping the two.

Earlier, Pakistan were not able to add much to their overnight total as they were bundled out for 339 in the morning session. Misbah remained the top-scorer for his 114 while Chris Woakes was pick of the bowlers for the hosts with figures of 6/70.
