AUS vs SA 2nd T20I Highlights: South Africa beat Australia by 53 runs

Dwarshuis has his middle stump knocked back fifth ball of the 17th and then Zampa sends it down the throat of long on next ball. Bosch is on a hat-trick but he will have to wait till next over since these were the last two balls. Australia are also down to their last wicket and so he might not get it today either.

Peter floats up the fourth ball outside off, Carey comes charging down the track. He can't get the connection he was looking for and the ball pops right into the hands of Brevis at deep midwicket.

Maphaka cleans up Owen to take his third of the evening and seventh of the series. Hard length on middle and off, Owen goes for a wild swing and misses the ball entirely.

Maphaka gets his second and well, it looks like that's the game. South Africa had lost a review for a caught behind appeal off just the previous ball. Then Maxwell miscues a haymaker down the ground and is caught by Brevis at deep midwicket.

50 and gone for the big man. David gets back on strike third ball after Maxwell's attempted biggie fell just short of long on. He looks to drive over cover fourth ball but can't get enough elevation or distance.

Second consecutive fifty for Tim David! As long as he is around, Australia are in the game. Rabada returns for the 10th over, Markram clearly wanting a wicket here ASAP. David greets him with a flick over deep midwicket for a six. Single next ball takes him to 50 in 23 balls. 

Well that ball went a mile into the air. Stubbs makes good ground to run in from long on. Takes the catch and keeps the ball in his hands in relief for a couple of seconds before looking up. A welcome wicket, right after Tim David blasted Nqaba Peter for 19 runs. The last ball was sent outside the stadium big man and this is a replacement ball. Wonder if that had any effect in this dismissal. Anyhow, Corbin Bosch has struck with his first ball of the match.

David clears his front leg and sends the third ball of that over by Ngidi over cover for four. He is then dropped by Stubbs at deep square leg, was a tough catch though. Single off the fifth ball and then Marsh drills the last ball of then powerplay over cover for four. 

Marsh on 17 off 10, David on 19 off 11.

Well, Maphaka may have got Green in that over but then that is followed by Tim David hitting fours off the first three balls that he has faced in this match. No boundaries in the next over by Rabada though and David finishes it on 14 off six balls, Marsh on 13 off nine.

Cam Green clubbed Maphaka for fours off the first and second balls, with the pacer having overstepped as well at the start of the over. And then, Maphaka roars back, short of a length delivery, Green pulls and Peter takes a brilliant catch at deep midwicket, diving full stretch to his right.

Markram ends the second over with a short ball, Head rocks back and pulls but can't get the required distance on it. Pretorious does very well indeed to take the catch on the rope.

And well, just as Australia did, South Africa have chosen to bring on someone who can be described as a very good part-time more than a proper all-rounder, like Maxwell was. Aiden Markram to bowl the second over. 

All right then, Kagiso Rabada steaming in to Australia captain Mitchell Marsh. Travis Head at the other end. South Africa had scored just 50 runs in the powerplay, remember and so the Australians would know that they too need one of their players to go big. They need 219 to win. 

Rabada is run out off the last ball and Brevis walks off to a standing ovation. He raises his bat to all parts of the crowd. An unbelievable knock there, a record for the highest ever score by a South African in T20Is. Brevis is a boy with a lot of expectations on him, he was called a mini version of a bona fide legend in his under-19 days. Then he seemed to have slipped off that glitzy radar for a short while but now, he seems to be finally coming into his own.

An incredible knock. 12 fours, eight sixes, 125 runs in 56 balls at a strike rate of 223.21. His first international ton is a South African T20 record. How about it!

A wild swing, top edge over the wicketkeeper for a four yet again off the fifth ball of the 19th over by Hazlewood. That takes Brevis to 120 off 52 balls which is the highest score ever by a South African in this format. Goes past Faf du Plessis' 119 off 56 balls against the West Indies in January 2015. Brevis unable to reach the last ball outside off and finishes that over on 120 off 52 balls. Importantly for Australia, it means that Kagiso Rabada is on strike for the last over.

But it is not Brevis. Adam Zampa the man who strikes, throws the second ball of the 17th on a length outside off. Stubbs takes a wild swing and loses shape entirely. Caught at backward point. 

Thus ends a 126-run partnership with Brevis which came in just 57 balls. Stubbs scored just 31 runs in it off 22 balls. Extraordinary!

South Africa 183/4 in 16.2 overs

The great man notes that a number of IPL teams missed out on the chance to sign Brevis and CSK have got a good one. Well, he was one of the few positives for CSK in a largely forgettable 2025 season and now, Brevis is showing once again that he can perform at the international stage as well. 

There was such a golden opportunity for IPL teams to pick up Dewald Brevis at the auction! Missed out badly. CSK either got very lucky, or maybe the biggest master stroke ever?? The boy can play @BrevisDewald

Youngest ever South African centurion in T20Is. The 22-year-old Brevis pulls it to the boundary for a four and brings it up in style. This is just an extraordinary knock. Dwarshuis returns for the 15th over, the first ball was wide and then Brevis blasts the second back over the bowler's head for four. The next ball is sent over backward point for another four. Two singles and then the shot that brought up the century. Brevis then tries a funky little scoop and he misses it. 

He is on 102 off 42 balls, Stubbs is on 17 off 15! A partners of 113 off 50 and Stubs has just scored 17 runs in it!

Hazlewood returns but Brevis stays there. Two singles off the first two balls and then Brevis is beaten by a scorching yorker from Hazlewood. It takes an inside edge and, heartbreaking for Hazlewood, goes behind for four. Two more runs off the next ball and then Brevis's pull takes a top edge and goes over the wicketkeeper for four more. Hazlewood changes up, digs it in outside off and Brevis smashes it over deep midwicket for another six.

He has now moved to 84 off 34 balls, Stubbs still on 11 off 11! 

SA 141/3 in 13 overs

Wow, that first six which brought up Brevis's half-century is followed by another next ball, this time demolished over cow corner. Then Brevis goes for another big one down the ground, the fielder at long on is for some reason too far inside the rope! It's Matthew Kuhemann, he tracks back and dives but can only palm it over the boundary for a four. Then Brevis smashes the fifth ball over long on for another six. A single last ball keeps him on strike. 

He is on 67 off 29, Stubbs on 10 off 10. 

South Africa are 123/3 in 12 overs

Brevis sends Maxwell's second ball of the 12th over clean over long on. Just a wonderful connection that and it brings up his 50 in 25 balls. Baby AB has been on fire today!

Runs coming thick and fast now for South Africa. He meets Zampa in the 11th over with a six over long on first ball and finishes it on 44 off 24. Tristan Stubbs at the other end just enjoying the show on nine off nine.

Well Pretorius just ran down the track really, goes for an almighty swing but it takes an inside edge on to his pads. Carey does well to dive to the batter's leg side and once he had the ball in his hands, it was all over. Pretorius is caught about three feet outside his crease as Carey breaks the stumps. Pretorius looked like he didn't even know where the ball was. 

Maxwell absolutely pumped, roaring in every direction.

A middling powerplay at best for South Africa, Australia continue to be on top in this series. Brevis managed to get off the mark with a lovely straight drive right down the ground for four third ball of that sixth over by Dwarshuis. He is on five off six. Pretorius on 10 off seven. 

Markram skips down the pitch and tries to drive the fifth ball of that over from Maxwell down the ground. But he doesn't get the elevation he was looking for and Owen takes the catch at mid-off. So Maxwell does get a wicket in that over.

Glenn Maxwell is not happy at all. That should've been wicket No.2 for Australia. And to make matters worse, Lhuan dre Pretorious uses that second chance by pumelling the very next ball onto the roof of the stadium behind midwicket. 

Ben Dwarshuis brought on for the fourth over. His third ball is short and Rickelton messes up the pull shot. It goes straight down the throat of the fielder at midwicket.

Ryan Rickelton lays into Josh Hazlewood here. He starts by miscuing a bottom-handed swing and running two. Then he sends the second over midwicket for the first six of the innings. The fourth was a juicy full toss outside off, Rickelton sends it past backward point and deep third for four. He takes a single next ball and then Markram picks up the last and puts it over deep square leg for another six.

Rickelton on 14 off 8, Markram on 18 off 10.

Glenn Maxwell to bowl from the other end now. Markram cover drives the first ball away for four and then punches fourth down the ground for another. He took a single next ball and is on nine off five.

Aiden Markram: Learnt quite a bit (from the first T20I.) There was a lot of dew. We'll try to get some runs on the board. I thought the wicket was really good in the previous match. South Africa bowled out Australia for the first time ever in T20Is in the last match between these two, which is quite incredible since one would think that the Proteas would've already done something like that long ago. And yet, that wasn't enough for them to stop the Aussies from winning the match by 17 runs. Can the hosts keep the series alive today?
