Anil Kumble was appointed as new Indian cricket team coach on Thursday and his appointment was hailed by BCCI president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke. Speaking at the press conference to make the announcement, Shrike said, "Kumble is transforming himself from a great on the field into a great coach." READ: India name Anil Kumble as head coach, Twitterati hail appointment After more than an hour's delay from the scheduled 5PM announcement, Thakur complimented the board for the transparent process in inviting applications and the picking of the final coach. "BCCI has been very transparent as far as selection of coach was concerned." READ: I will do what’s best for Indian cricket: Anil Kumble Thakur also clarified that there was no rule in place to select only an Indian for the job and elaborated that given the stature of the game in India, that idea couldn't be considered. Commenting on the eventual selection, Shirke said the discussions were rigorous and extensive. "The process has been very elaborate. Meetings have lasted for more than 6 to 8 hours." Thakur, on his part, didn't add who all were in final contention for the job. "Anil Kumble has been finalised. Not fair for other applicants that names are discussed."
