Mohammed Shami, the Indian fast bowler, has been in superb bowling form in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Despite missing out in the first four games, he has returned with wicket-taking spells in his last few matches.

Shami has been able to swing and seam the ball both ways, and he has also been able to generate good pace. This has troubled left-handers and right-handers alike and has given him wickets in all phases of the game.

One of the most impressive things about Shami’s bowling in the World Cup has also been his consistency. He has been able to bowl long spells of accurate bowling, and he has not given away many loose balls. He has also been able to bowl at the same pace throughout his spells, making it difficult for batsmen to score runs off him.

Shami’s superb bowling form has been one of the main reasons for India’s success in the World Cup so far.

On the other hand, Siraj has struggled with his rhythm since the start of the tournament and bagged only six wickets in as many games at an average of more than 47.

This prompted former Australia allrounder Shane Watson to give his verdict and say that Shami could take Siraj’s spot as India’s second pacer after Jasprit Bumrah.

“It’s a great problem for India to have. That’s a sign of a team that’s in incredible form where all the players are putting their hands up and playing at their best. In my mind, Shami has taken over Siraj’s spot because of the way he’s bowled in the last two games. He’s been incredible,” Watson told Star Sports.

“When Shami is at his best, as we saw against England, he’s just so difficult to play, Watson said. “He can beat any batter on the outside or the inside. And because his length is so accurate, it’s always hitting the stumps. He’s always in there asking questions,” he added.
