Magnus Carlsen was left seething after a mouse slip eliminated him from the Chessable Masters, his last event as the World Champion, on Thursday.

In a video posted on Twitter by Chess dot com, the Norwegian can be seen screaming in frustration and even slamming his palm on the table after a mouse slip caused him to drop his queen which caused him to lose the Armageddon game in the online tournament to Hikaru Nakamura. The American, meanwhile, can be seen celebrating after confirming a spot in the Division I final against GM Fabiano Caruana, who defeated him once on Wednesday.

Intending to play 63.Qxb6, Carlsen accidentally dropped his queen on f6. Nakamura immediately pounced on the error and took it out with his king.

“It was a wild game, but I came out on top,” Nakamura told presenter IM Tania Sachdev afterwards.

Talking about the last moments of the clash and his celebration, Nakamura added: “He can’t win every match. I know he’s the greatest player of all time but he cannot win every match. Just like somebody cannot get lucky every single time. It was just nice for a change to have something going my way.”

Before the blunder, there was a point when Nakamura was seen taking a nap as Carlsen was mulling his next move.
