Indian trio of Sarabjot Singh, Arjun Singh Cheema and Shiva Narwal clinched the gold medal in 10m air pistol team event, overcoming China’s total by just one point on Thursday in Hangzhou at the 19th Asian Games.

It is India’s sixth gold medal at the ongoing Games, and fourth from shooting.

In the men’s 10m air pistol individual qualification, Sarabjot and Arjun made it to the top 8 with scores of 580 (5th) and 578 (8th) and qualified for the final. In what was overall a low-scoring qualifiying round, India’s total of 1734 was just one better than China’s total.

Sarabjot started off the day with two series of 95 points and was quite low in the pecking order early on. But he bounced back superbly with 97-98-97-98 to make his move up. Arjun was consistently around the top 8 but managed to sneak in the end, based on more X shots than his nearest opponent.

Shiva Narwal shot a total of 576, recovering well from a first series of 92. Incidentally, a few hours earlier, his elder brother Manish Narwal also won a shooting gold medal but in the other corner of the world in Lima, Peru in the Shooting Para World Championships. The Tokyo Paralmypics champion clinched gold in P1-Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1.
