Mitchell Johnson has come down hard on Australian sports reporter Rebecca Wilson for her article titled ‘Arrogance at heart of Aussie meltdown’.

In her piece published in The Daily Telegraph, the reporter wrote “A CULTURE of acute tension, lack of cohesion and overpaid individuals placing themselves above the team has created a perfect storm within Australian cricket that could take a decade to fix.”

Australia surrendered the Ashes in record time to England, and the Michael Clarke-led unit has come under a lot of flak for their show. But, Rebecca was more concerned about their conduct off the field.

“In a team sport, where the chemistry is vital for success, the spell has been broken by tours dominated by family time. I wake each morning to an Instagram file of photographs — cricketers with their kids at training, the wives having dinner with brothers and sisters (and the player). There is never a shot of the team dining together, having breakfast before the bus departs for the ground.”

The same question, about presence of WAGs as distraction on the tour, was posed to Michael Clarke at a presser and the retiring skipper denied such allegations and gave a strong reply.

“That’s absolute garbage,” he said. “I’ll give back 10 of my Test 100s if it wasn’t for my beautiful wife. I’d be half the player I was without her.”

There have been further reports of some sort of ‘division’ in the Australian dressing room but Clarke rubbished the rumours, adding that feeling in the group is exceptional.

Australia seamer Mitchell Johnson was a bit late reading Rebecca’s piece but when he did, he ensured his voice was heard.
