Two wadas collapse,one injured

Some parts of two dilapidated wadas at two different places in Guruwar Peth and Shukrawar Peth collapsed in the wee hours of Friday.

Some parts of two dilapidated wadas (cluster of houses) at two different places in Guruwar Peth and Shukrawar Peth collapsed in the wee hours of Friday. Only one person sustained minor injuries as only a small portion of one of the wadas was occupied.

Fire brigade officials said that around 4 am,front portion of an 80-year-old wada near Kasturi Chowk in Guruwar Peth collapsed.

A person identified as Rushikesh Thakur sustained minor injuries and was shifted to hospital before the fire brigade team arrived. Fire officer Sunil Gilbile who led the rescue operation said,“Though only small part of the wada collpased,it indicated that the entire structure has become very weak.”

In another incident within an hour of the first,a portion of the Badhane wada near Akra Maruti Kopra in Shukrawar Peth collapsed around 5am. No one was injured as the affected portion was not occupied. Gilbile who was on call here too,said,“The wada is 70 to 80 years old. It could be clearly seen that the rest of the wada has developed many weak spots.” There have been three incidents of old wadas collapsing in the past two days.
