The Kolkata High Court Friday allowed BJP president Amit Shah to hold a rally on November 30 outside Victoria Memorial here after the party’s request was repeatedly rejected by various city agencies.
The court, however, appointed two special officers to ensure compliance of fire services and municipal rules for the public meeting, and observed that the government should not be rigid in the compliance of these rules while granting permission.
Justice Debangshu Basak appointed the director general of state fire services and the joint commissioner (development) of the KMC as special officers, and asked the city police commissioner to depute an appropriate officer to assist them to ensure compliance of rules. Over past 10 days, the party was driven to the court thrice as it was denied permission to hold rally.
