Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar Friday said his party NCP was ready to contest all 288 Assembly seats if ally Congress did not give it 144 seats this time.
In 2009, the NCP contested 114 seats and the Congress 164.
Addressing party workers in Ahmednagar, Pawar said, “I feel all parties should contest 288 seats on their own.”
MPCC chief Manikrao Thakre said he would not react to personal opinions expressed by Pawar in the absence of any official communication from the NCP.
Meanwhile, in a meeting held Friday, the Congress signalled that former CM Ashok Chavan, who is an accused in the Adarsh housing society scam besides facing trial in a paid news case, would play a key role in decide candidates in Marathwada.
