Infosys global head of sales Basab Pradhan quits

The development comes weeks after NR Narayana Murthy returned to Infosys as its executive chairman

Basab Pradhan, senior vice-president and head of global sales and marketing at the country’s second largest IT-services export firm,Infosys, has resigned from the organisation to start his own venture.

The development comes weeks after NR Narayana Murthy returned to Infosys as its executive chairman and just ahead of the company’s first quarter results on Friday

Pradhan, who joined Infosys for a second stint in June 2011,announced his exit through a Twitter post on Tuesday. In a message posted on Twitter,Pradhan tweeted,“Leaving Infosys to go back to the startup world.” The announcement itself was very uncharacteristic as it was perhaps for the first time that any senior official from Infosys has announced his departure through a microblogging site. Earlier, too,in 2005,Pradhan had left Infosys to set up a venture capital funded technology start-up called Gridstone Research with former colleagues. He was the CEO of the start-up,which was into financial data analysis. It was acquired in 2010.

Prior to Infosys,he had worked with Hindustan Unilever in Mumbai. Pradhan has played multiple roles at the Bangalore-headquartered IT company across sales, marketing, industry solutions and P&L leadership. From starting the company’s first sales office in New York in 1995,Basab has been involved in the formation and growth of the offshore services model. During his stint as the head of global sales, the company grew from $400 million to $2 billion.

Internally,Infosys has seen management transformation in the last two years including reshuffle of top executives.

The company gave no reason for Pradhan’s departure in its brief email statement, reported by Reuters,on Tuesday. “We confirm that Mr. Basab Pradhan has resigned. We wish him all the best,” it read.
