Desperate for an image makeover in the wake of the IPL spot-fixing scandal,the BCCI Monday decided to use the Internet to promote transparency in its operations and engage its large fan base directly.
As a part of its clean-up operation,the boards emergency general body meeting has decided to throw up for debate a series of new measures members think will help check corruption in the T20 tournament.
Banning cheerleaders,ending post-match parties and imposing a strict IPL code of conduct were a few of the important decisions that were taken as the BCCI tried to restore the credibility of the IPL.
All these proposals that the committee decided today will be first sent to all state associations as we want to seek their opinion. Later they will be also put on the BCCI website. Fans can give their views plus chip in with their own suggestions, said a top board official.
It was decided that the report of the BCCIs spot-fixing probe panel will also be put online. Fans too are stakeholders. They have the right to know the facts. So,after the report is submitted,we will go through it and act accordingly. Also,we will place the report in the public domain, a top BCCI official told The Indian Express.
It was also announced that Sanjay Patel of the Baroda Cricket Association would be the new BCCI secretary,while Mumbai Cricket Association president Ravi Savant will be the new treasurer.
The owners from now on wont be allowed to enter the dressing room and dug-outs during matches. Players and franchises will have to provide all their details. From ownership to players contract,franchises have to make everything transparent, the BCCIs interim chief Jagmohan Dalmiya said after the meeting.
In another important decision,the working committee also agreed to keep national selectors away from the IPL. This a departure from the time when the chairman of national selectors,K Srikkanth,was the Chennai Super Kings brand ambassador. No national selector will be allowed to get associated with any franchise in any capacity, Dalmiya said.
Meanwhile,the BCCI suspended Rajasthan Royals owner Raj Kundra pending inquiry and barred him from taking part in any cricket activity. Kundra said he would contest the decision. The working committee also discussed M S Dhonis alleged conflict of interest case. The Indian captain reportedly held a stake in Rhiti Sports 8211; a sports management firm which also manages Suresh Raina,Ravindra Jadeja and Pragyan Ojha. Dalmiya said he would speak to Dhoni about this after the Champions Trophy.
