Fuming Pak allegedly blames Pawar for depriving it of ICC chief’s post

PCB has reportedly expressed its disapproval to the proposed policy to end the ICC rotational policy.

The ICC is planning to do away with the rotation policy for appointing presidents and cricket’s world governing body is likely to deliberate on the proposal in its annual general meeting later this month in Hong Kong.

Pakistan Cricket Board has reportedly expressed its disapproval to the proposed policy to end the ICC rotational policy. The scrapping of the policy would end all possibilities for the ICC President to be from Pakistan or Bangladesh.

Under the rotational system currently in place right now,Pakistan and Bangladesh are to present their nominees for the president and vice-president’s post and the two countries are reportedly opposed to the idea of scrapping the system.

According to reports,Pakistan is blaming India’s Sharad Pawar because of the money power/influence that the BCCI wields in international cricket and nothing can be cleared without its approval.

It must be stated here that Pawar is not the BCCI head, but his protege is,Shashank Manohar is.

Under the current dispensation, once the term of Sharad Pawar’s successor,Alan Issac (New Zealand) is over in 2015,the next ICC chief would be from Bangladesh/ Pakistan, provided the rotation policy is not abolished.

“But ICC sources have confirmed that plans are underway to change this system. The main topic of discussion at an ICC governance committee meeting in Chennai last week was the rotation policy,” reports said.

The policy was at the centre of a major controversy last year when Australia and New Zealand’s nominee John Howard,a former Oz Prime Minister, was rejected by the other boards and New Zealander Alan Isaac was chosen after a massive furore.

The earlier ICC method of selection of President (there was no Vice President) in 1996 was a rotation amongst Full Members, who would each have a turn in appointing the President/Chair. The order commenced with India (Jagmohan Dalmiya),then Australia (Malcolm Gray),Pakistan (Ehsan Mani),South Africa (Percy Sonn),the system then in 2007 moved to the current Vice President/President system, with rotation around Australia/New Zealand,West Indies/England,India/ SriLanka,Pakistan/ Bangladesh,South Africa/Zimbabwe.
